Anyone else a fan of classic video games?

And no, I don't mean PS1. If you are, like me, then check out Video Game Directors Cut. This guy make Flash movies using old 8- and 16-bit game graphics, and he's pretty good too. The best one by far is Rise of the Mushroom Kingdom. Classic game fans should really check it out.

When I think of classic gaming I think of what was out there before Nintendo came along...like Atari, Intellivision, Coleco...

Back in the day..... ITs a good thing that my dad has an atari 2600 and about 50 games WE dont play it that much anymore for the mere fact that we want it to last. But we have everything from the joysticks to the paddles.

I still have my 2600 Atari and about 25 games for it. Waiting for them to get valuable before I put them up on eBay.

When I think of classic gaming I think of Space Invaders, Galaga, Centipede and DigDug. Rember when Battle Zone came out with vector graphics and blew your mind with it's 3-D world?

I have most of the machines I grew up playing - or at least a similar machine. I have a 2600, but it's actually from my wife's family. I'm missing my 5200 and Intellivision, both of which my mom sold a garage sales or gave to family members. I still have my Sega Master System and Genesis - my brother and I grew up with those instead of Nintendo.

I have some obscure 2600 carts. Smurfs, for example, is one of the worst games I've ever played. ET, of course, is worse still.

Most of the former employees from Outrage still keep in touch through a message board similar to this one, and the administrator has an arcade on it. I have been the Asteroids champion pretty much since he put it up.

I had a Commodore joystick that worked with the 2600. There was also a game for the 2600 that came with a keypad. I can't remember the name of the game but I do remember having the keypad.

Hey, don't get me wrong guys. I too have fond memories of Donkey Kong and Asteroids on my Colecovison, and Frogger, Grand Prix, and PacMan in the arcade at the beach. Even though I was quite young, those games grabbed my attention, but my NES kept it. With the exception of my Colecovision (and Silent Hill 1 ), I've kept every game and system I've ever owned.

The only reason I made the comment is because of all the 10-15yr olds out there today that think a game just has to suck because it doesn't have the best graphics. And as a (self-proclaimed, apparently) classic gamer, this really pisses me off. My favorite 2 games are Final Fantasy 2(4) and Chrono Trigger, and it's certainly not because the graphics are good. Although personally, I love the SNES graphics.

Check this out:

$4,000 is pretty steep for the ready-to-ship model. Making your own would probably be much cheaper. They sell similar things on ebay all the time. My brother just bought one for a few hundred bucks. It wasn't a high end model. It has a slow hard drive so graphics intensive games like Dragon's Lair load slow, but he says the traditional games play fine.

Cheers,
Matt

For one of the funniest reviews of Atari 2600 games, check this out:
http://www.seanbaby.com/nes/atari2600.htm

Warning: crude humor and foul language. My favorite.
