Question Where do you put your empty oil bottles?

From a previous poll it was apparant that most of us change our own oil. What do you do with the empty bottles? Throw it in the trash? Wash them out and recycle? I am not sure which is best but I throw mine out because I know it goes to a trash burner and not a land fill. I would not wash mine out because I have a well, as well as my neighbors have wells and I don't want the oil going into the ground. Also, what about oil filters?

I take mine up to a local auto parts store as they recycle the oil only. I have to take the containers home which go to the regular trash along with the drained oil filter.

I put the oil bottles in the recycle bin without washing them. The filters go in the trash. Our recycling guidelines may vary from yours so check with your local sanitation department.

It all goes into the trash. Fortunately, my rural "Garbage Man" also owns a recycling company. It's all sorted at their plant, so, we don't have to worry about separating paper, plastic, glass.

Late at night I dig a hole in a neighbor's yard and throw everything in - oil, bottles, filters, antifreeze, brake rotors, whatever. The key is to dig a deep enough hole so that if they investigate it, they'll give up before finding the treasure.

Bhahahahha! Good idea.

I take it to an oil recycling center, where you dump used engine oil, and old oil bottles.

What do you do with old oil bottles

Pep Boys takes mine when I put my old oil in them to get recycled. I'm sad to say I throw away the filter (but I do let it "drain" for a few days into my oil changing pan). I passed a truck with Baltimore, Md one day that was had a number for oil filter recycling on it but when I called they only recycle in that region. I'd suspect that to run 10 oil filters down would still create more pollution then I saved by not recycling the filters.

I give my used crappy oil to people who listen to rap music, because they can't afford new oil since they're usually driving some huge ghetto rusty POS from the 80s with big subwoofers and they spent all their money on new cell phones and 20" chrome rims. :P
