Minor problem with site

It seems that the little envelopes close before I get to read some of the threads. I thought it would only close AFTER I read the whole thread.

If I don't get on-line for a few days it seems to close them for me. Is there some setting I need to change. I just don't want to miss anything and I rely on the computer to tell me where I've been.

Also, sometimes that down arrow doesn't take me to the latest post.

What could cause this?

- Jeff

It may not be putting you down to the last post b/c it hasn't loaded the entire page yet, wait a few xtra seconds and let the page load then it'll go to the bottom

as far as you other ?, i don't know, other than If you are clicking on the "view all new posts" link, it shows the new posts since the last time you logged in, so if you pull that up, then don't read 'em all, the next time you go back to the site, it won't pull those up b/c it check from the latest time you logged in

hope that helps

I'm not really sure about the envelope closing issue - I can't think of any reason it would do that, I'll keep an eye on what it does to me, perhaps I just haven't noticed it.

As far as the "latest post" button, I think that feature is a bit of a hack - its guessing as to which message it should jump to, and sometimes it doesn't guess right. Thats just a theory though...

If i understand it right, the down arrow should go to the firstUNREAD post not necessarily the LAST post.

I also have this difficulty sometimes -- but, it's when I render a "long" post (not that I'm guilty of posting long posts ).

If I type for a long time and go back to "view new posts" it tells me there are none, when, I know for a fact that there (sometimes) many more posts I haven't read. That sends me into each separate forum, looking at dates and guessing which posts I haven't read. But, this is only a minor annoyance, considering the many WONDERFUL things about this place.

Closing threads

This software seems to default to marking all threads as read, when you exit the site, regardless of whether you've opened them or not.

Oh ya!

<<This software seems to default to marking all threads as read, when you exit the site, regardless of whether you've opened them or not.>>

I think there is an option to turn that off. I'll have to go look when I'm off work..... )

Don't get me wrong Randy. I LOVE LOVE LOVE this site. It's like Cheers, "where everybody knows your name" or at least your handle...

I reported this in early July, after being out of town a few weeks. I went back and read the threads by looking at the dates of the newest postings, then the dates on the posts. It was painful the 1st time, and then again when I got home 2 weeks ago. However, it beats the message 50 bug. You guys should try going away for 3 weeks, and not having computer access. When you get back, it's amazing how "chatty" this place is.

Damned Microsoft! Seems to have put the 5 a little to close to the 4 on the keyboard.

Yeah, why isn't it over between the 8 and 9, where it belongs?

I found a setting in the board for the amount of time you have to remain idle before the unread messages are set to read. It was at 15 minutes, which might be too short, I upped it to 30 minutes to see if that 1) resolves any problems and 2) creates any new problems. May not solve anything, but let me know...
