Air filter problems?
Hey all, I went out and bought myself a Purolator air filter and changed it last night. The original was all filthy and was an OEM subaru filter, so it wasnt changed for a good 20,000 miles. Anyway, after changing it I noticed my car is a little hesitant when idling with the heat on and when im at a light. Its not really hesitant but it was noticable and didn't do it before.
I didnt put the OEM back in yet. I will try it when I go home. Does anyone have any ideas, because im stumped

Wait a few days and see if it goes away. The ECU may have to adjust. You could try disconnecting the battery for awhile or pulling the ECU fuse. That would do the same thing also.

Thanks , i figured it would be ecu related.
I did notice that the car ran a lot smoother when I was actually driving it on the road, so it did make a noticeable difference.

Make sure you didn't pull of one of the vents off the intake tube, it will give the MAF bad readings and idle bad. Happens all the time.

-Update-, I ended up having a mechanic friend look at my car. It turns out theres an air leak that is causing my idle to drop and go back to normal. Its some valve from the heater because its only doing it when the heat is on.
He cant see where the leak is because he said its coming from under the intake.

As far as I know the SVX uses no vacume for any heater function.
And how would you have broke somthing under the intake changing an air filter. I'm telling you check all the hoses going into the intake tube, make sure none fell off, also check to make sure you didn't tear the tube at the throttle body. From the sounds of it its a small air leak that gets more noticable when the heat/def is on because the AC compressor will run and cause engine load.

I checked all the hoses and removed the intake cover but all the hoses were fine. Could it be a spark plug wire thats causing one of the cylinders not to fire?

No air leaks? And it ran fine before you changed the filter?
Well out side of the air tube advice, its hard to diagnose over the web, but have the plugs ever been changed?

No they haven't, I'll be running some more tests within this week. I'll have my brother test to make sure the spark plugs are firing.
I'm also going to try putting the old filter back in, even though it shouldnt make a difference.

You know the SVX uses coil on plugs right? Hard to test to see if there all firing unless its skipping real bad now, then I suppose you could unplug the coils one at a time, and the one that makes no difference in the way the car runs, when it's unpluged is your problem cylinder.
