Flexplate install question

I'm looking to install a new flexplate tomorrow without using an engine hoist or removing the tranny. Will this work:

Lift car put on jack stands
Disconnect ps lines and electrical connectors and intake
Remove radiator and fans
Remove converter flexplate bolts, bell housing and starter
Unbolt engine mounts
Jack up engine by oil pan and slide forward 4-5 inches

Obviously I will have less room to work replacing the flexplate but is this possible or am I missing anything?

Re: Flexplate install question

You'll probably have better luck pulling the transmission back a few inches, I know some of the Impreza crowd who change their clutches this way. I can't see jacking and balancing the engine on the oil pan working out well, plus you have to raise the engine a decent amount to get the mounts to clear the subframe before you can pull it forward.
