Manifold back exhaust

Well my exhaust is completely shot the full way. So it's getting hacked off. Going to build a custom. I've gone through the videos on youtube. Got some ideas from them.

My idea is based off of this guy

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UGDu4yh_QQw.

His exhaust diagram:

http://www.seccs.org/gallery/Car%20P...e_as_built.jpg

What I would like to do is no precats, change the Glass pack to a SLP Loudmouth resonator. Not sure if you guys are familiar with them. They are making some really nasty sounding exhaust with the V8 guys... Wanted to give a shot with boxer motor..

He says just a generic bullet camaro muffler. I'm looking into the realm of Magnaflow. What series are you guys running?

It's going to be a few weeks to build up the money... but will keep you guy posted.

Re: Manifold back exhaust

2.5" is far too large for the pipes/tubes off of the factory header with a stock engine.

Re: Manifold back exhaust

What Tom says. 1-3/4 to 2" is fine for the pre-cat pipes on a stock SVX, merging into a 2.5" mid-pipe. The smaller tubing also makes routing easier, as the bends are tighter.

Here's what I did with mine. I haven't done a sound clip, but it sounds good.

I'll probably sell this one in a year or so and build a new version in stainless, with a resonator and flanges or v-bands all around. Need to get a MIG for myself first. I have a flux core welder, but it's a pile.

Re: Manifold back exhaust

Ok. Got what you are saying.. Use 1 3/4" or 2" pipe if you are not running pre cats. Thanks any other suggestions?

Why not run the pre cats?
Cut off the 1.61" diameter factory pipes/tubes and replace them with 2" mandral bends.
In Allegheny CO. you are surely subject to PA emission laws.

Re: Manifold back exhaust

1.Precats... Reason being money..

2. Yeah 2" seem to be the best bet. Running right into a Magnaflow 94007 cat. Seems to be the ticket.

3. lets just leave the rules out for now..

Revival!

Did anyone make a diagram or photo of the stock system?

Did anyone make a "The Definitive Exhaust Thread", TDET™?

In case it helps, here's the alternate plan I had to resort to for the rear here in Aus.

Re: Manifold back exhaust

What's the piping like?

Unless I modify the intake or engine, is there anything at all to gain by changing anything?

You can change the sound, tone, and the amount of noise.

If you do it wrong you can create dead spots in the power,
or make it sound like an unmuffled garbage truck.

If you have bigger cams or a power adder
(supercharger, turbocharger, NOX)
an upgraded exhaust can help release some power.

However the stock SVX exhaust is very efficient and well designed.

Untill the factory resonator starts to BUZZ!

Thanks!

I am fairly happy with the resonator and muffler. It's very quiet, which increases comfort. When I open the throttle I, and those around me, hear the engine sound rather than hollow exhaust bellowing. This means a lot in terms of "prestige" around here. Every kid on the block has a modified exhaust but it's very little impressing and somewhat comical: You can hear it's just an expensive exhaust system on a 112hp 4 pot family affair.

Possibly, I could enjoy a little more bass on low RPMidle and enhance the "racyness" of high RPM. I think the quality of the tone right now is quite good, so I'm not sure if it's worth the money? For sound tuning, I assume the important bits are resonator and muffler?
