Rambling thoughts on a pretty good SVX year
So my car has had a pretty good year mechanically, the only thing it really needed this year was a leaking transmission line replaced and a new antenna. The good year it is having has allowed me to take care of some other things; getting the paint on the roof to buff out to a shine. Restoring the headlights and covering them with protective film, conditioned the leather, installed a WRX 6 Disk CD changer and new front speakers, added a 97 grille. Installed the latest versions of ECutune TCU and Ecutune ECU ROMs. Then to top it off I stumbled across a set of STI BBS that had just been powder coated. Man, when I put those wheels on it I just had a feeling of "this car is now finally complete", and at the risk of jinxing myself I have to say that it looks and runs the best that it ever has in my 5 years of ownership. It is a lot of fun to drive and has run great on two recent 300+ mile trips to NJ. -Don't get me wrong it still has several problems. Issues that I would classify as minor but that would take major effort or big money to repair, so on the whole I can live with them and they don't bother me too much, although they would turn me off as buyer.
I think my worst year was back in 2009 which started off with a transmission failure and replacement, then a replacement of a bad rear dif and a trip to the body shop to repair damage from a accident. The car was at a crossroads where I could have walked away, it was a tough year but I'm really glad I hung in with it and got all the work done. [Thanks SVXFiles for all the great work you have done on it over the years.] Sometime I think I want a different SVX, a different color, less miles, a 5 speed or just one that is a bargain that I want to save, but then I think of all the work it took to get to this point and realize that this is my SVX for the long haul. I don't think I could part with it as it has become like family. So hopefully many more years of SVX ownership for me, and hopefully many of those will be "good years". Now, it's just about time for me to remove those BBS wheels with their summer tires and put on my stocker for winter, so a couple photos first!

The car looks great, and that has to be a great feeling of contentment. Congrats

Re: Rambling thoughts on a pretty good SVX year
Glad you keep on trucking. I'm quite the opposite. My SVX runs just fine, but I'm done with it. It hasn't moved in a week and I don't plan on touching it until I have a buyer, or want to play in the snow with it.

Re: Rambling thoughts on a pretty good SVX year
I've moved on to my impreza and will be focusing on it. Don't have the time nor space to keep the SVX around. I've offered it to Nate, but he has too many.

Glad you're enjoying it, Sean. If you haven't had luck selling the spoilerless trunk, let me know if there is anything you're needing/looking for. Could trade back for it. (I haven't been on in over a week so I have some catching up to do.) |
