Is this a good deal for a fixer-upper '94?

http://www.ksl.com/index.php?sid=733...ew&ad=10189011

$1200 with a blown head gasket, rusty doors, minus one fender, but many new parts.

Also, there seems to be an abundance of '94 Pearls in Utah. Besides this one and the 2wd LS I already own, I know of one other that's been parted out recently and another one that's been for sale off and on over the past couple of years- that makes 4 of a fairly rare model and color combination.

I would say no, it is not a good deal. Not at all.

I agree with Sean, not worth it when you consider the price just to get it on the road.

But it IS a pearlie and ALL of the thermostats work...

Really? With how few '94 Pearl Whites produced, I'd be tempted. By far the best color when restored.

Re: Is this a good deal for a fixer-upper '94?

Did I mention I have a '92 parts car with a good engine, fender, and also an extra Pearlie driver's door? The only thing I don't have is a good pearl fender (though I do have a Claret one.)

I'd probably offer the guy between $800 and $1000 if he ever contacts me back...

Yeah that makes a big difference not having to buy an engine (or repair the head gaskets). I also agree with you on the price $800-$900 should do it.

Re: Is this a good deal for a fixer-upper '94?

Exact reason I will never sell my bordeaux.

I think in all fairness $800 is a decent price considering you already have the parts. Offering him $400 would be disrespectful... insulting someone's intelligence will only piss them off and make you look like an asshole. At least he's trying to sell the entire car as a project and not just totally dismantling it and selling off every part, which would obviously be a far easier way to get his asking $1,200.

$800-$900 and you have a parts car, I say go for it! Keep that thing on the road!

Re: Is this a good deal for a fixer-upper '94?

Scrap yards are offering between $300 and 400 for complete cars right now. Ray being in SLC (as am I) may have already seen it and is offering an informed opinion though

Well, I wasn't trying to be hasty but... fact is, you could easily get $400 from just a few parts off that car even in its worst condition. Which is obviously why it isn't at a junk yard and is being offered as a fixer upper instead. Having a junk yard buy it from you would be an almost last resort method, with a pretty damn good reason, by anyone with any amount of sense whatsoever. Just saying... Is it in poor condition? Sure. Is it worth more than $400 as-is? Definitely.

Please record the conversation if you do end up offering such a ridiculously low amount. I imagine it'll be short and end with a *click* on their end.

Re: Is this a good deal for a fixer-upper '94?

I would definitely check it out.

He says it has a "quad tail pipe sport exhaust" and the angle on the exhaust looks similar to a Stebro...

Edit: For comparison

Re: Is this a good deal for a fixer-upper '94?

The comp I am using is the SVX I bought three years ago for $600.00, AZ car absolutely no rust, it ran and had a great set of after market rims. I think any money above junk yard prices is what a car is worth. Actually, I am not sure the local junk yards will take a SVX any longer for there is not a lot of interest in Salt Lake due to the few left in this area.
