Best. Beater. Ever.
My 1989 240SX. $500. Has needed a $30 ball joint and $40 worth of U-Joints.
And yesterday: Lets see what other POS cars people drive!

Re: Best. Beater. Ever.
I had the same car, a '93 that I paid $100 for 6 years ago. I reluctantly, sold it last April for $1,500, less than I wanted, but when relocating to another state, one can't be too picky. It had 275K at sale, with origional everything including clutch. NO - not brakes, tires, & plugs. Them 240s are indestructible.
Ron.

Re: Best. Beater. Ever.
My "winter ride" is this 1995 Audi S6 Avant. Only 300 were imported to North America. Love it!

Re: Best. Beater. Ever.
1994 Volvo 850 Wagon (non-turbo, auto) 202k and parts are fairly inexpensive and easy to come by. It has heated leather seats, moonroof, a great stereo and plenty of interior room. Sure, its FWD, but the mileage is slightly better than my 92 and 96 Legacy wagons were and I put about 3000mi/month on it. I sit in a lot of traffic so the automatic is favorable, and the paint isnt great but it gets banged into whenever I park it in NYC so it's tolerable.

Re: Best. Beater. Ever.
No winter beater here, just use all my vehicles minus the TiV. Road the bike to work today. 9 degrees when I left the house. Tomorrow, ice and sleet so I might take the X type but honestly the XJR does just fine in the nasty weather that I can't understand why anybody would need a "beater". I do miss my Brat. Wish Subaru would make something like that again. Warmed over Legacy crucks without a low gear just doesn't do it.

Re: Best. Beater. Ever.
I've been using the STi as a 'winter beater' for the past few days because, with winter tires strapped to it's ever-so-AWD, it's one honkin' heap of fun to drive on crap-covered roads. Plus I'm certain I'll make it all the way up my driveway!
I also keep half an eye out for a clean used WRX wagon. I think that would make a fine beater.
