Suspension sagging?

Hey all,

Here's the story I had a full inspection of my car through Subaru, along with other things they quoted that my suspension was sagging.

Because my back tyres were scraping the wheel arches. I went to a tyre dealer and got told me that the reason that my back tyres were scraping was because my back tyres were too wide.

So I replaced my back tyres from 235/45 to 225/45. Initially this fixed the problem of the tyres scraping when I hit bumps etc. but I then realized that when I when around corners fast enuf the body roll wud make the tyres scrape again.

My dad said something about it could be the offset of my wheels and the suspension seems the bounce back when I jump up on the car to test, so it can't be that stuffed.

To put it in perspective, when I stand on the door frame, ur finger would get crushed if u had ur finger at the top of the side wall of the rear tyre.

Any ideas?

Cheers,
Jay

Re: Suspension sagging?

I am running 17 x 235/45 on 350Z wheels and the rear left rubs. There is a noticeable difference in clearance from the right rear so I'm replacing the struts. I don't know my wheel offset but that could be a contributing factor.
Cheers,
Gene

Fixes one problem and creates a much bigger one!
Any tire deales should know that on an All Wheel Drive car the fronts and rears must be matched in height.
And putting different size tires front to back can make the handeling unpredictable.
The rear tires are slightly taller than ste stock tire, but are MUCH closer than the ones that you have on the front.
Stop driving the car, take the front tires off and back to the "tire dealer" and get a matching set.

Re: Suspension sagging?

The rear strut mounts rust through, and collapse (very neatly, hard to see), and lowers rear about 1.5".

Re: Suspension sagging?

I had matching 235/45 17" all round and the rubbing was ridiculous, and was wearing down the side walls. Even tho it makes sense that not having matching tyre sizes is a bad idea, it was either leave on my existing tyres and risk the side wall blowing out or get a quick fix with the money I had.

Even tho it is only such a small difference in the width of the tyre is there anything I can do temporarily to help it not 'destroy my ttransmission' e.g. Pump up my back tyres more or something? Is this an urgent thing I need to change? Or are replacing things like my ball joint and cv boot more important to spend my money on first?
