Windshield trim question: trim problem
Hi all,
My daughter had windshield replaced today in the Ebony 92. Joint dealer/local shop replacement of replacement; in that the 1st factory windshield pressure cracked after three days. Local Glass shop chased Subaru dealer for warranty on glass...the 1st was replaced in May. At this point I feel I need to fix this myself...Trim does not sit right. How to fix...

Re: Windshield trim question: trim problem
What piece of trim is that? No SVX I've ever seen has a piece of trim right there. It just goes straight from windshield to the black piece that the wipers sit on.

Re: Windshield trim question: trim problem
The problem pictured above is relatively minor and common in MANY cars after a windshield installation.
Gordon, did you see if the tech took the wipers and cowl off the car? There is a common practice/shortcut with many installers called "sneaking" where they will leave on the wipers and cowling when doing a windshield install, in order to save time, and avoid the hassle of removing parts such as wiper arms, wiper cowls, etc. This practice is frowned upon "by the book" because an inexperienced tech will run the risk of making a poor seal, yet many installers still use this technique to avoid damaging costly items in removal/installation. Sneaking often leaves cowl panels either slightly deformed or unclipped. This will not affect the seal of your windshield, but will allow debris to collect in the cowl drains. In this case, I'd take a peek under the metal trim and see if any of the white clips are missing, broken, or just not clipped in. A small push on the cowl may do the trick.

Re: Windshield trim question: trim problem
Hmm, I'd need to see a picture of that from a different angle. If it is where I think it is, my car only has black glass there.

Re: Windshield trim question: trim problem
Unless you can see your wiper linkage, your car has that metal cowl piece.

Quote:
I was not able to deliver the car or be there, daughter handled replacement of replacement. The first windshield the cowl was installed perfectly, but they left the drivers side wiper loose, so they probably removed them. This time, it was apparently installed at dealership the 1st windshield was purchased from, due to warrantee claim. Mike, does the cowl remove easily? I would like to take it off and refinish it, if it does.
