Wix oil filter number

When Tom finished up my car recently I changed the oil for the first time in too many years to recall (5 I believe, car sat in the garage). I bought a Wix filter for the Porsche 944 (tall cannister, correct thread) and the part number for that filter is 51287. Expensive little bugger though at $14.00.

Re: Wix oil filter number

purolator is a great one and the # is L30165.
I bought a dozen of they on the web for a steel a while back I will look for the source. The company had a special for a certain zip code and when you went to the site it asked for your zip. That got me to the price that saved me about $10 each filter.
For the shipping address I simply put in my correct address, unrelated to the previous zip I entered, and it worked like a dream!!

Some others did the same thing so maybe some one has the information on it. I will see if I can find it.

Re: Wix oil filter number

Thread NECRO!!

Just thought I would add after doing some more research.

Quote:
well... after an exhausting search through damn near every Wix filter availiable, then cross-referencing those to Purolator PN's.. I have found the following as the best candidates..

--------------------------------------------------------------

First, the stock specs:

Wix: 51334 (Purolator: L14460)

Size: HxOD = 3.2in. x 3.3in.
Thread Size: 20X1.5 MM
By-Pass Valve Setting-PSI: 8-11
Anti-Drain Back Valve: Yes
Max Flow Rate: 9-11 GPM
Nominal Micro Rating: 19

Gasket Diameters
O.D.= 2.5in.
I.D. = 2.2in.

--------------------------------------------------------------

The specs from the "oversized" one I WAS using:

Wix: 51344 (Purolator: L24458)

Size: HxOD = 4.1in. x 3.2in.
Thread Size: 20X1.5 MM
By-Pass Valve Setting-PSI: 8-11
Anti-Drain Back Valve: Yes
Max Flow Rate: 9-11 GPM
Nominal Micro Rating: 19

Gasket Diameters
O.D.= 2.5in.
I.D. = 2.2in.

--------------------------------------------------------------

And now the ones I am hoping to use:

1:

Wix: 51285 (Purolator: L30251)

Size: HxOD = 5.8in. x 3.0in.
Thread Size: 20X1.5 MM
By-Pass Valve Setting-PSI: 30
Anti-Drain Back Valve: Yes
Max Flow Rate: 9-11 GPM
Nominal Micro Rating: 32

Gasket Diameters
O.D.= 2.7in.
I.D. = 2.4in.

2:

Wix: 51287 (Purolator: L30165) A shorter version of above

Size: HxOD = 4.8in. x 2.9in.
Thread Size: 20X1.5 MM
By-Pass Valve Setting-PSI: 27-33
Anti-Drain Back Valve: Yes
Max Flow Rate: 9-11 GPM
Nominal Micro Rating: 19

Gasket Diameters
O.D.= 2.7in.
I.D. = 2.4in.

Also,

STockers

Looks like the M-105 would fit also as an alternative to a large filter.

Re: Wix oil filter number

Purolator L30251...

http://www.partsamerica.com/productd...tNumber=L30251 links right to the page. just put them in the cart at $8.68 each order a few $75 worth and get free shipping and no sales tax for most of us.

This is a really tall one...5.8 inches high... with twice the micro rating, 32 as opposed to 19... what ever that means... Sounds better to me!

That reminded me of a neighbor that we used to have that serviced cars out of his garage.
He would do an oil "change" by filtering the customers used oil through pantey hose and put the oil back in their cars and charge them for new oil!

liamrh, that wouldn't by any chance be you would it??
Sorry, I missed your point. Purolator is a pretty good filter.
The normal list price is $20 and change.

Re: Wix oil filter number

Yeah, $20 and change would definitely mandate the panty hose method oil change.

I *believe* that the micro rating should be micron rating and if so 32 is much worse than 19 as this refers to particle size that is captured by the filter.

kwren - I think the smaller the micro rating the better.

Very interesting Fun to learn! Got me thinking...

Now I am wondering what size particles are actually important to filter out?

Also filtering out smaller ones might stop or restrict the flow through the filter much quicker, giving it actually a much shorter life of filter efficiency, especially when we believe the "extended" ump-teen-thousand mile oil claims?

Interesting world, eh?

Re: Wix oil filter number

Smaller partical size, but much more filter material so it shouldn't clog very fast. I still change the filter at 3,000 miles or so.
