Question about alternator wiring connector plug

When replacing my alternator the other day I noticed the smaller of the two wires that connect by modular plug on the PS pump side of the unit has a severe kink, and greenish discoloration inside this kink suggests that the insulation is broken and the wire is oxidizing. The kink is right at the backside of the plug, so cutting and splicing at that point wouldn't be possible.

Can that plug be taken apart, and new wiring connected? The inner segment being a different colored plastic, I wonder if maybe it just pops out somehow. I didn't want to fiddle around with it for fear of breaking the suspect wire, and the wiring on the other car looks to be in about the same shape.

Thanks in advance.

The grey terminal connector...

can be disassembled and the spade push on connectors removed and replaced.

be careful to not get your wires crossed. one heavy gage and one obviously smaller gage in the right holes in the connector!

Just take it apart and try to get the right spade connectors that will lock in when you push them in if possible. if not, it should be fine anyway

any questions please pm me

Good luck,
Keith

Yeah, I saw that economical alternative at subaruparts.com. Don't suppose they sell just the plug.

Thanks for the input.

I think John SVXcess found a source for the plug?? Or check at any local alternator rebuilders. The last guy that I went to, told me that he could get the plug for a few bucks...

Please let us all know.
Mine is real brittle on both cars

I think our alternators are the same as ... maybe Mitsubishi, anyway, some body's?
the dealers might have just the connectors

Significant Technical Input Registered SVX Classic SVX
The company I got the connectors from was Northwest Regulator Supply, Inc. in Portland, Oregon. Their phone number was 503-235-1038 or 800-242-6367

The connector number is 50-12252 and fits all the alternators used in the SVX. It is a Mitsubishi alternator- A3t08891 Mitsubishi Electrical Corp.

They were $5.71 each with 6" of wire attached. (back in June 2006)

They usually have a $25.00 minimum order, but he waived it and sent me just 3 connectors. Shipping by priority mail was another $3.50.

I'll look to see if I can still find the other two...

If you are unsuccessful using the above information, contact ASE Supply Inc. (also in Oregon) at 800-289-2737
