Forester 5 speed, okay for SVX?
Got a Forester 5 speed from work today for free, they were going to scrap it. it "makes noise" so I'm pretty sure it just needs a bearing or two replaced. How will this hold up to the flat six? or should I just save the 4.44/4.11 gears (Not sure which it has) and dump the rest of it?

what kind of noise? I have a wierd grinding/whurring noise when I let off the gas.
I think I'm gonna pull it apart and see what I can find next month. May also swap in a new tranny... OT beat me to the perfect trans just over in NY by like 10 minutes

I don't know, it was replaced under warranty and then Subaru didn't want the old one back, and it was sitting in a box in the back room in pieces and the parts guy told me if I wanted it to take it or it was going in the scrap bin. I think I might check the bearings and stuff and see if any of them are bad and replace them, and put it all back together and put it in my wife's turbo Legacy. Less torque than the SVX, plus with the 4.44 gears it'll scoot a lot better than it does with the stock 3.90 gears lol. (I don't get why they geared the turbos down, you'd think they'd leave 'em at 4.11 like the non-turbos were, to make 'em scoot that much more.)

My brother has a jdm Forester Turbo, it has 4 44. I thought all Foresters had the same low final drive mainly because they might be driving off-road at some stage. Joe

No, sorry to confuse, I was referring to the Legacy I have. I do not know what ratio the Forester tranny I have is, I'm going to have to count the teeth on the ring and pinion. I was referring to the fact that non-turbo AWD Legacies are 4.11:1 while the turbos are 3.90:1. Should make it scoot better, I just have to find matching LSD for it

OK, I get you now.
The jdm Twin Turbo Legacies that I had ran with 4.11. Joe
