I have an update...um, just because.

I visited Gallo-Miller, the shop doing the work on our Outback, to see their progress. Dave Miller was very accommodating and showed me the work they had done and what they had found since we dropped it off almost two weeks ago. All they had really done so far could be described as 'exploratory.' None of the sheet metal had actually been removed yet. The inner right quarter panel and right B-pillar both have to be replaced, so the estimate tops ten grand now. I imagine that there are few surprises left to find, so I doubt it'll hit the magical 75% get-a-new-car mark.

They're waiting on some of those parts, so I don't think there's a chance the car will be done when they originally estimated.

Hey, here's a fun update:

We just got the car back yesterday. No kidding. That's two months plus one day after the accident. The shop did a beautiful job, but it sure took them long enough.

The total bill was somewhere above $11k for the damage to the car. My wife's still going to physical therapy for injuries to her knees and the insurance company has to pay me for some damaged aquarium equipment, but we sure are glad to have the car back.

Nick, glad to hear it.

It's also a tribute to the car that it took the hit and your family was relatively safe.

I do hope and expect your wife's knees will come OK with the therapy. Tell her she is in our thoughts.

Happy New Year!

Joe

Thanks, Joe. Happy New Year to you and yours as well.

You're right, I am totally impressed with that car. Okay, it almost rolled over, owing to the higher center of gravity, but that was a huge hit. It was off-center in the side, sending the car spinning.

There are a few niggling problems with the car, but nothing serious and I'm sure we'll get them sorted out. The shop replaced a head lamp, but not the two rear stop/brake lamps. One has the low filament out and the other is missing the high. All these lamps weren't out before the accident; I'm not sure whether that's typical or not.

I don't think anybody would be able to tell how big an accident it was involved in.
