15 year old CD players are most likely going to be shot. The Compact Disc was a fairly high-tech thing back in 92'. A working head unit however should play a new standard format disc with no problems whatsoever.

A good MP3/CD unit can be had for less than $150 nowadays, and splicing into the wiring harness is easy with the How-To's on this site. I agree though, to maintain an OEM look I'd go with the 6-disc WRX changer or another factory unit, although anything with green illumination looks fine

Is the SVX CD player interchangeable with a Legacy CD player? I know the tape deck is different...

Went through the process of installing a 05 WRX 6disc player this Sunday. Pretty happy with the result all-in-all. May need to shave a little material off the back cover on the door to clear the 2 knobs but it fit the cage nicely (with a little cutting), wire hook-ups with David Carters harnesses were simple, and it sure sounds better than the older Panasonic it replaced. Illuminates in green too!

I just installed an 03 Legacy GT 6 disc. Check out the mod section and search radio install for the anal. No cutting involved of the front cover like you need to do with the WRX. Wish it had a MP3 plug but the weather band really more than makes up for the lack of the plug

I dont think it will fit due to the security door and distance offset in the dash. It
will cover the climate control when it is up. I have installed A D DIN and there is very little room left over

It's been a long time since I looked at this, but as far as I remember, you CAN replace just the CD player with a panasonic equivalent, or a Subaru-branded panasonic unit from a Legacy. The plugs are a different shape, but the wires are the same, you just need to figure out the pinouts and adapt them.

I am sure if I can get a hold of one, SVXdc will be able to make me a plug. Do you know any model #'s?
