I saw my car one day, and onlye test drove it, next day I bought it, yeah I've had some problems... but I still LOVE my car, its been 3 months since I got it and I swear I'm never going to sell this car.

You got a great and unique machine in your hands. Hope you enjoy it as much as we all do.

I'll post a pic of her this weekend, after I get my son to give her a good wash and shine. Off to work now. Talk to ya later.

Thanks
Well basically you are wearing out the transfer clutches as it sounds like they need to be replaced...You are looking at tranny service to fix that. Could also sound like your differentials may not be lubed properly....leading to gear problems, friction, premature failure..... differential service.......

The headlights are notorious for being weak to begin with, you can upgrade to 9005 bulbs (have to make adjustments to the bulb assembly to get it to fit, but it's not difficult); that will increase your output significantly (I don't have the numbers right now, but lots of members do.) Another problem is the yellowing/oxidation of the plastic outside of the lights. There's lots of info on the site about cleaning/polishing headlights. Just do a search or look in the "how-to's".

If you want a manual, we have a couple of spares lying around. I'll check to see how much it would be to send you one.

The power light flashing 16 times indicates some sort of trouble code. You need to see what it is. There is a description of how to check the codes on http://www.svx-iw.com and several other posts/threads on this site.

Good luck in finding a mechanic. If you find one who is somewhat competent, but not familiar with the SVX, there are several members who can be reached by phone for techincal advice & guidance.

Welcome to the site, and enjoy the ride!

I would first clear the codes and then see if it flashes. It may have been tripped before you got the car. Drive if for awhile and then check the codes if necessary.

Stock 9006 bulb= 1000 lumens.

Stock 9005 bulb, modified to fit in 9006 plug= 1700 lumens.

DO NOT BUY THE SILVERSTARS THOUGH. The bulbs are overdriven and do not last very long. Buy the 'xtra bright' cheap bulbs from Wagner or something. They work great. 70% more light, compared to stock.

You can't clear transmission codes though, they clear themselves after the problem has been solved. That's what happened when I replaced my transmission resistor... it just stopped flashing.

If you still need a new tranny, check out these guys. For the $4000 you were quoted, you can get a stage 3 bullet proof tranny.

I will be searching for a mechanic next week. Wish I could get a Level10 tranny, but its too much right now. I need to have it checked and then I'll be back here with the mechanic's assessment and to get your opinions.
Do you guys and gals ever get tired of us newbies and our questions?
I've been looking at the How-To's and checking other posts to try and get the answers before I ask!!

We have been referred to as "extreme hobbyists", "enthusiasts", and even "nutcases", but we love our cars!

And we love sharing information, although sometimes it DOES get old answering the same old "how do I clean my headlights?" questions.........

You're doing well to try to find the info on your own before you ask.

Where are you in Canada?

I'm in British Columbia out here in the wild west.

I cleaned my headlights with Mother's Mag (as per posted info) and they look much better. My husband-NOT a car nut at all!!-thinks I'm going crazy. I zip home during a split shift, buy the Mother's, clean 'em and get ready to zip back to work. Yesterday, it was washing it again. Humm, I should have done the rims while I was at it with the Mother's...now I know what tomorrow's break will bring.

Any polish works well. I use Old No 7 chrome polish, because it's a bit more aggressive.
