rear Brake Caliper

My passenger side rear brake caliper is leaking at the pistons. Purchased an OEM rebuild kit but now the info i'm getting from various shops is that i would be better off replacing it then rebuilding it. One shop highly recommended Cardone A-1 calipers if i was to go that route. The real reason for rebuilding instead of replacing is that i've had all 4 calipers powder coated. So now i'm thinking well replace this one and just paint the damn thing......I'm open for suggestions........

If yoiu have the capability, I would just rebuild them. Why did they say to replace them. The ones I have that are powder coated have been rebuilt after being done. I don't understand why they would recomend that.

A quick how to off the top of my head.

Disassemble

1. Remove the retaining ring on the outside of the seal
2. Put a small block of wood and a rag in the caliper to chach the piston
3. Using compressed air in the brake line whole push the piston out
4. Remove the inner seal with a pick or screwdriver
5. Clean out side of piston and inside of the piston sleeve.

Reassemble

1. Coat the inner seal with brake fluid
2. Force the inner seal into the groove inside piston sleeve
3. Coat the outside of the piston with brake fluid and force it into the piston sleeve. I should slide in farly easy.
4. Push the outer seal over the pistion and into the groove on the outside of the piston sleeve.
5. Install the new retaining ring onto the outer seal. Start at one end of the retaner and work it around untill its all the way in.

Removing the pistons

My calipers were so frozen that I was unable to pop the pistons out with hydraulics or pneumatically. You wouldn't believe the sluge that was inside. Here is what I did: I put the caliper in a vise, soaked it with WD40, then clamped an adjustable C-clamp, used a hammer claw and used the caliper as leverage. The piston came right out. PS. the C-clamp I used was small enough to fit right under the lip of the piston without damaging it. Check out the photos.
