Water Pump Replacement Question

Do you think it is possible to change the water pump without removing the timing belt? I thought with a little force I might be able to tension the belt and slip the bolts in. I'm sure it will be a pain though.

I doubt the timing belt tensioner will let you get away with that...it's just too strong.

I'm gonna agree with David on this one. That tensioner is really, really strong.

I recommend cutting the belt and stapling it back together.

If you're already at that point then you may as well take the belt off. You're 95% of the way there.

yeah, I dont get it.
the belt is easy to pop off and back on.

Well if I can do this by removing just one side of the belt cover and not have to worry about realigning the belt, I would prefer that. I've only done a belt once, and wanted to see if anyone had an easier way to do this. Guess not. Thanks.

I wouldn't replace the water pump without replacing the timing belt anyways, and the belt HAS to come off, to get the water pump out.
Plus you can't even get to the water pump by just removing the outer belt cover, the center section has to come off, which means both outer ones have to come off....just my thoughts on it.

If you HAVE to reuse the timing belt, just line up the marks before you remove the belt, and put paint marks on the belt to line up with the markes on the pulley, to make it easy to re-align.

Then chances are the factory paint marks are still on it...if not, just line it up and put some paint marks on it before you take it off.

Sorry but I have to chime in. The tensioner is very stong, agree but the bolt, now that is a nother story.
