Is the Wrx rear diff the same as SVX rear diff?

The reason I ask is that I had my SVX rear diff converted to 411 so I could run it with a Forestor transmission. I have since picked up a 6 spd for my WRX so I put the WRX 5mt in the SVX. I also installed the rear diff but the pasenger side axel does not fit. On the SVX (now 411 diff) i can see clear through where the axels go. On the WRX diff there is something in the middle. Its 3 inches deep but the axle stub is closer to 3.5 inches.

I think the driveshafts have slightly different lengths and/or splines. At least one person has installed them with success (using shims or some such), but others warn of failure without modification.

I don't know really this is more or less a bump.

post count +1.

I would start here:

http://www.subaru-svx.net/forum/showthread.php?t=32758

If that doesn't help, send a PM to TomsSVX. Or try PMing svxhunter, he's in your state and might be able to physically help you.

I just thought of something else . . . With the 1.1:1 reduction in the rear of the WRX tranny, you don't have to change the stock SVX rear diff gearing. If you reconvert your SVX rear diff back to it's original 3.545 gearing you'll be ready to roll!

Good Luck,
Dan

The SVX has funky rear axles. For our limited slip to work, one axle needs to go into the center for the clutch disks to be attached to the ring and pinion. It's a stupid design and whoever thought it up should be shot. Anyway, you are going to need the SVX rear diff to make it work, the good thing is, I have a couple I could give ya and you don't need to alter the gearing as it has the right ratio to sinc up with the WRX box. Let me know if you would like one. Maybe we can cut a deal with the forester 5mt you have

I am going to have to reconvert the old diff. The person that bought it is going to use it in a 510 but will probably have axle issues using the SVX r160. I am going to put the 411 in the WRX r160 and put the SVX one back to 3.54.

This will make the 4th time I have pulled the diff from the car. At least I am getting much faster at it now.

I need some other parts to complete my swap. Like a modified pedal box, gas pedal and wrx brake booster.

Maybe we can work a deal on those.

absolutely. Do you need me to source a pedal box? I have plenty of SVX gas pedals. I also have quite a few extra brake boosters I can get going on. Do you need shift linkage as well??

I do need the linkages too. I have an extra WRX shifter I can send you that I was going to modify but I quickly learned that my fabrication skills suck.

Not soon enough unfortunately to prevent me from fubar'n the WRX pedal box I had. If you could source one of those that would be great.

thanks

I'll see what I can find. I have linkage here so once everything is said and done You can send me the core back. Anyway we can take this to PM's instead of getting completely off topic. If you are still selling the trans, don't bother reconverting the diff. I will send you one of mine. This way I have a 4.11 diff all set to go
