Need new transmission....maybe???
I understand the transmissions on these cars are not the best and you are all probably sick of transmission posts, but I need to know if my problem is transmission related or just normal.
- I drive a 1994 SVX LSi with the newest transmission they made for these cars. It shifts perfectly fine...doesnt miss ne gears. So here is what I think may be a problem. When I am driving around 30-40mph and "stomp" on the gas my car will only downshift about 750-1000 rpms or not even that. It actually seems like it doesnt downshift at all, but when I am any lower then those speeds or higher the car downshifts to a RPM where you really feel some torque. I know these cars can not be abused and I promise you I take care of it. Riding around in 3rd, rarely ever stepping on the gas at complete stops, hard braking, and so on. I do not want to inflict any damage to my car that can easlily be prevented...and plus it puts a burden on my money . Is this normal for these cars to do this? Also, it seems to barely downshift when the power mode kicks on. I have 118k miles on this car and from my knowledge only one owner who was old...hehe. The car has been doing this since I bought it around October. |

It's normal. Above 30mph it will only downshift into 2nd gear. Between 30 and 35mph I found the SVX to be quite dead with the stock tranny.
