OT: Mitsubishi Outlander problem
A friend of mine has a Mitsubishi Outlander and had the CEL come on. I read the codes off the car and came up with an interesting one:
P0456 EVAP emission control system very small leak. I thought for sure I'd come up with a misfire, because he said the CEL came on right after he changed the plugs. Why he changed the plugs, I con't know. The car has less than 40k on it. Anyway, if anybody has a suggestion, let me know. This car is pretty foreign to me, but looks very simple. Or at least it's put together with a few very expensive components instead of thousands of cheap ones.

Solved. Apparently my friend was not tightening the gas cap fully. Somebody told him that he should leave it a little loose in summer or the engine will suffer vapor lock.
Obviously whoever told him this hasn't driven a car built since theearly 80s.

Darn it, I was going to guess that!
Vapor lock, eh? Just when you think you've heard 'em all We get people in here often with the same problem. They find it hard to believe that a loose cap will set a check engine light...but it does. Subaru even prints a warning right on the cap " A loose cap may turn on check engine light". Dave |
