Northwest Meet this Saturday 02/02

Thought I'd announce this on the main board so everyone catches it. Looks like we're going to meet somewhere south of Seattle, possibly picking a fly-in at the airport this Saturday. I personally needed to get together before I let the 5 speed go to it's new owner. It's great having two SVXes but I could really use the $7000 I'm getting for it. I will try to bring both the 5 speed and the Auto as well as my Vanagon VX. Please suggest spots for a drive, lunch or whatever. Hopefully the weather will cooperate with nothing worse than our everpresent liquid sunshine.

The details...

Here's what we decided, with just a few days to plan the meet...

We will be meeting this Saturday, Feb 2nd, at the Southcenter Mall, just east of Sea Tac Airport. We are meeting at 1 PM, in the parking lot outside the food court area, which is on the south side of the mall just east of Sears. We're going to try to park out from the buildings so we should be fairly visible.

So far I know of 6 SVXes that are confirmed to be there (one of them is Brian Steel's 5 speed!) plus Brian's Vanagon VX! Not to mention Scott, I believe our only Alaska member on the Network, is flying down just for the meet!

So if any one else is out there, feel free to attend!

Great Meet!

I was surprised as SVX's kept showing up until (I believe) 12 cars had arrived. Two more drivers left their cars at home (one in Alaska and one in need of a tranny).

I also posted an image of the SVX powered VanagonVX from Small Car, who also provided Their 5 speed SVX for test driving.

I need everyone's help in car ID so let me know which is yours and I will repost them with proper credit.

And the weather was great. I mean, you know, great for the Northwest in February.

Thanks to everyone who came!

Jerry

Photos are in my locker.

WAY TO GO NORTHWESTERNERS!!! Twelve cars is a great meet, and, I believe, a record for the Northwest. Darn! I wish I coulda been there! See what I mean by "it's the people, not the cars." Happy to see folks finally gettin' together. Now, you Southwesterners and Southeasterners need to try and get something big going!

What a great day! The weather was crisp and breezy but mostly dry with just a few clouds. Brandon met us at Small Car and we headed down to the cart track for our 11:00 reservations where we met Tim and proceded to flog the carts for a few laps. Brandon showed us how to drive the track and won both heats, and I got a chance to spin out and run into my wife without having to talk to my insurance company. Two of my kids and one of their friends joined in and everyone had a great time. Now I'm really worried about when my 13 year old daughter gets her license. We talked about the transmission resistor mod and unplugged those in Brandon's and Tim's cars. Both really liked the results and Tim was thinking his transmission might have been on the way out before this.
Up to Southcenter and I think I was the second to arrive. Very cool to see all those SVXes in one place. I can't remember half of what we talked about but the subjects included: wheels, tires, engines, automatics, five speeds, altermator mods, headlights, LED's, Euro turn signals, grills, paint, car art, and the kitchen sink. It was great!
Several attendees drove the five speed and they all decided Subaru really missed the boat on that one. Can't wait for the next meet and a chance to whip Brandon on the cart track.

To Brian Steel,

Loved the pictures. Glad you all had a great time.
I was a bit puzzled by tthe 2 pictures of the lineup of SVXes. There is a pearlie on the left side of the lineup that seems to have some kind of hood scoop on it. Could you eplain this in more detail?

Glad for everyone

Well, Its good to hear that we had a very sucessful NW meet. I wanted to be there bad, but I just didnt have the gas money to drive up there. (pretty sad due to round trip gas would only be $65 or so) I was also going to have a Seattle friend of mine make an appeance for me, but I think he had a Rice car meet at the same time. Oh well. Possibly in the future I will make it to one. Offer still stands for anyone traveling through the Nampa/Boise area (Idaho) to look me up and drop by. You can get the dime tour of the network operations center Its quite impressive.... unless you are an administraotr for a large company. But even then, I have my mutimedia wall.. So big business can stick it in their pipe!

You are correct LarryIII the pearlie does in fact have a hood scoop installed. Its not a bad looking mod but it needs to be painted. I didnt ask what it was made from, some kind of plastic I presume. As of this writing it was not functional but the owner (who also demonstrated that the SVX can smoke the tires in FWD mode) said something about making it so. I think he said he got it from motorsports warehouse but I could be wrong.

My wife and daughter will be attending a conference in Boise the last weekend in March. I offered to drive them, so's I could meet up with some of youse guyz while they were "conferencing," but then, I realized that the conference would be just before Reading III, so, wouldn't be feasible. Perhaps another time.

Thumbs up Awesome meet!

I'm just now checking back into the Network after the weekend, but I will agree with everyone in saying it was great to finally meet some of you and get the cars together! I was only expecting to see about 6 SVXes there from our planning posts here, but one after another they kept showing up! Pretty amazing, considering the first word of this was less than a week ago today! I think this is the beginning of great things!

Brian, Jerry, great pictures! I will be posting mine up later this afternoon.

Maybe they can bring back some real fine 'taters' for you.
