X-Country Rallies; MTV is Dumb

Well, to my dismay I watched MTV last night. They had a 'special' on the AKA Rally, an event from NY to LA. While MTV made it look really dumb and followed a bunch of morons throughout, it looked like a lot of fun. Not so much doing high speed jaunts across the US (people were going way too fast), but just driving cross country and making checkpoints, etc. I think events like this and the Gumball Rally would be an awful lot of fun to do. A very relaxing, high speed, sight-seeing trip.

Again, MTV (Music TV???) chose to show a bunch of stupid kids that were driving quite dangerously. I guess this is cool to some people, but I felt dumber watching them drive (and speak for that matter).

Someday I hope I can afford to do something like this. Although I hope its not in a stupid riced out Acura like one team had.

What do you guys think of these kind of Rallies?

The best part about the last gumball would have to be when they crossed into Africa and were allowed to go whatever speed they wanted (allowed by the king!). The police just waived them on.

I saw about half the show too. I agree, it was dumb. But, they did show a couple of those kids getting pulled over for speeding. Some of those kinds were pretty young and driving nice cars... Beamers, Mustang Cobras, new Acuras, etc.... Those tickets coupled with the fact that cars are new and probably not paid off really hurt those morons.

Oh I think they are absolutely awesome! I have to admit I had so much fun driving to florida non stop ................well - I switched after about 700 miles for some shut eye.

I would love to do something like this. I saw Gumball Rally 3000 and thought it was the coolest thing ever!

As for the show - being a kid myself I thought it was actually kinda cool to see young people doing this kind of thing. Don't really think any one was out of control about it - but it was definitely no gumball rally ..........heck they had ferraris

We need a video of all the Euro SVX'ers in one big line, hitting
the autoban at top speed... (SAFELY that is, no stupid weaving
in and out of traffic stuff)

But it would be an awsome video no-doubt!

The "Players Run" which seems to be somewhere between that low-grade rally on mtv and the gumball 3000 ran through Denver a couple months ago. Stopped over to check it out, looked like a ton of fun. Cars there:
360 Maranello
911 turbo
911 turbo
911 turbo
930 GT2
Vipers
modified lincoln ls
Ferrari F40 LM
Bently Arnage
Porsche GT3
Saleen S7
An "Eleanor" from gone in 60 sec.
as well as some assorted evo's, wrx's other Ferrari's etc. etc.
...yeah, looks like an awesome time if you've got the money.

That'd be "Eleanor" if you're talking about a Shelby GT500.
