What's a good scenic route from Seattle to Lake Tahoe?

We have a trip to Tahoe planned for the end of June and looks like we will probably be driving it now.

Curious if anyone knows some good scenic routes from here to there, I know a couple of you are still driving to the Reno SVX meet the weekend before so maybe your route plans might have something we could use, at least partially.

We're looking for something fairly direct (to save on gas and only have one overnight stopover going each way), but also a bit scenic and off I-5.

Have you considered taking highway 395 and driving to Tahoe through the backside of the Sierras? If not that route, then take highway 97 through the Oregon Cascades. This is a much more scenic and enjoyable route than I-5. If you are in a hurry, the only drawback to highway 97 is that its one lane in each direction. There are passing lanes on a regular basis, but the key to making time on this road is to be willing to pass whenever there is an opportunity.

Well I'm taking the scenic route through ID, UT and NV, but I don't think that fits the quick/direct requirement.

You're going through Idaho?!!? You are obligated to stop by my house, even if you're only stopping for a few minutes! I'm located in Moscow, ID and I don't think that my house is out of the way at all. Let me know!!!

Sorry, I'm coming through I-84 to Boise, which I think is a bit too far south. But when I go out to eastern WA/northern ID (I want to get my windows tinted in Spokane) I'll visit you and stay here:

Only 88 dollars for the whole dog, whatta deal!

What an interesting place. And it's only 20 minutes away from my house!! You'd think that I would know about something that unusual but I had no idea.

Well, as long as you stop by, I'll be happy! Let me know when you'll be in the area. Have a safe drive!!

BTW, where in Spokane are you going to get your windows tinted? I'm in need of a tint-job and maybe you know something that I don't.

I'm going there eventually (fall?), as soon as my bank recovers from tranny work/Reno trip. Sunscreen's on the tintdude website and was the only guy who actually liked tinting SVXs (everyone else hated em). He wont leave gaps or mutilate the defroster lines. Besides, my car spent her first 10yrs in Spokane and Cour d'Alene, so I thought I'd take her back for a visit.

Thanks! I'll have to check that out on a map and see how it looks.

Driving speed is not a big deal, we won't be in a touring car. Speed is only important insomuch as it pertains to our plan to make the trip in 2 eight hour driving days each way or less.

A much newer vehicle with much less mileage and much more room. And even more gadgets and comfort features than the SVX believe it or not.
