Alternators???

Are there any other options other than the stock $299.00 dealer alternator? Mine has only a few days left on it. Ghost light blinking, 11.94 volts at idle and 12.1 at 2000 rpm.

Anybody got one off another subie? Who has a aftermarket high output that does not cost more than $350.00

Steve

What do the chain stores say? Do Autozone or Advance carry replacements or is it a dealer-only thing? I replaced mine with a Subaru part, but you're right - it was an expensive sucker.

Considering mine may need a replacement/rebuild very soon, I would also be interested in knowing the details.

The stock SVX alternator is rated at 95 amps, right? I think that's what my manual says.

Autozone gave me a price of ~$185 for a rebuilt unit.

I ended up taking it to a local Automotive Electrical shop where they do nothing but rebuild Alts and DC electric motors. The case was glass beaded and dipped in solvent and the all the guts were replaced with new for $95.

If you can go without one for a few days that is the way to go i my opinion...

That is a great price. Even at reseller prices, a four pair rectifier / regulator is close to $60 alone

I will be picking one up tomorrow at Advance Auto Parts for $188.00. It has a limited lifetime warranty. Will update on it when I put it in.

Thank for all your help guys.
