Re: Phenolic Intake Manifold and TB spacers for the SVX/EG33 coming soon

Ok..maybe my dyno needs some adjustment

I got the the tools and some materials ordered. They should be here in a couple of days.

Going to build the fixtures this weekend to hold them on the CNC, so I should be ready to go pretty quickly.

Also have to take the IM/TB off my SVX this weekend so I can see how it all goes together.

Wow. No need for a turbo setup anymore!

Haha, I think about 4 zeros were feeling lonely so you just had to throw them in there.

I'm with OT, definitely one of the best responses ever!

Tell Santa I've been a good boy, as if it makes a difference.

Will your phenolic spacers act as their own gaskets or will a double quantity of oem gaskets also be necessary?

It will be double OEM gaskets. One on each side of the spacer. So 4 of the manifold to head gaskets.

Gywnethh, and everyone else that ordered the spacers, it is recommended to double up on the gaskets to ensure proper seal and avoid air leakage.

The IM gasket to head part # 14035AA140 (need 2 sets)
The throttle body spacer gasket part # 16175AA091 (need 2)

Why not just machine in o-ring grooves and do away with any question of the spacers sealing?

O-Rings would work on the upper spacers as the ports are round but would not work on the lower spacers as they are a trunkated pyramid.
The factory gaskets work fine and I do not know how long O-Rings will last at aproximately 170°f.

Won't this work also disturb the gasket between the IMs and the intake collector? So should we also plan on pair of 14075AA021s?

Re: Phenolic Intake Manifold and TB spacers for the SVX/EG33 coming soon

If you want, you can seperate the upper and lower manifold, but it is not required. You can unbolt it as one piece from the heads. So if you find it easier, or have some other reason to separate them, than definitely get the gaskets for there also.

I know on mine, now that I have the spacers and the way the supercharger is setup, I never undo the lowers from the head. Anytime I need to pull the manifold/SC I only unbolt the upper. But that is more a way to save a little money as it only requires one gasket instead of two, and I don't have to move the fuel lines or anything just to pull off the manifold.

OT

Viton O-rings should work fine - spec out to 400 deg. F and are resistant to gasoline. Maybe a copper wire o-ring for the bottom? Would just have to replace them every time you pulled the stacks off.

Bill, a copper O-Ring on an aluminum/plastic interface torqued to only
20 ft/pounds might not be a good sealing idea.
It is different on a 90 foot/pound aluminum to alunimum head gasket, for example.
Copper O-Rings custom made and bent for a limited application would most likely be much more expensive than the stock Subaru gaskets.
Merry Christmas.

Sending PM.

Re: Phenolic Intake Manifold and TB spacers for the SVX/EG33 coming soon

Hello again-

After much holiday slacking and goofing off, I will be heading to the shop tomorrow to make the fixture and first set of spacers.

What material are the OEM gaskets made of? I have not pulled mine off yet, so I am not sure.

O-ring groove style sealing might be possible, but would require some R&D on my end to figure it out the groove size, find a suitable o-ring, etc...

How patient are you people?

Re: Phenolic Intake Manifold and TB spacers for the SVX/EG33 coming soon

Idk what material the OEM gaskets are as I've never had some in my hands. I have some ordered but haven't picked them up yet. For the Intake gasket I'm quoting two guys from ultimatesubaru.org "Subaru's intake gasket is a multiple layer metalic gasket", and "Subaru's OEM intake manifold gasket, just like their headgasket is graphite impregnated metal"

I don't see a purpose for the O-ring when doubling up on gaskets works fine on the injector stacks

Well, we've been waiting this long.... patient is my middle name

We know that the factory gaskets work.
With any luck you will never have to remove your intake manifold again.
Your first factory gaskets lasted for 100+k miles.
