Ignition cylinder or worn key?

What would be the cause of this?
I can remove the key in any position:

Re: Ignition cylinder or worn key?

I don't know the cause but it's a great feature. My first car, a 1969 Pontiac Beaumont (Canadian Chevelle)was like that. I could leave the engine running with the heat on in bitter cold weather and still lock the doors without a second set of keys. If it happened to be stolen they could only shut it off and not restart it.

Re: Ignition cylinder or worn key?

If it concerns you i would replace both. That's really common on subarus. Usually the key is the problem but it's good to have a newer key set. Subaru only had a few different keys back then. The key to my brothers 90 loyal starts my svx and my friends 98 outback.
