Issue with a torque converter

I need a few opinions, I took my SVX up to Rally sport engineering in Costa Mesa with a used rebuilt transmission and torque converter,

The mechanic there noticed that there was a chip on one of the notches on the sleeve of the torque converter that goes over the input shaft into the center differential case.

He said he thinks that the piece is in the transmission and he doesn't want to put the transmission in because he thinks that piece is going to break something in the transmission, or maybe already has.

Does anyone have a second opinion about whether or not this will effect my transmission?

Is there any way for a piece of metal a half an inch long to make it from the center differential into the transmission or oil pump?
