Control Arm Bushings
Hi All,
I am attempting to get the 92 LS-L that I just purchased road worthy for the state of Virginia again. One of the items I need is a bushing for the RF Lower Control Arm. I've searched for a mention of the bushing on the subaru parts sites mentioned on the forum, and through a friendly mechanic, but only been able to find the Control Arm (a $300-ish part). I also found a thread on this forum that had the specs of the control arm bushings, with the intention of getting a group buy together (though it looks like it never went through). So, where could I go about getting the bushing or a replacement control arm with good bushings? Thanks! ~TEck |

Re: Control Arm Bushings
Subaru probably doesn't sell the bushings separately from the control arm. I know that the bushings for the lateral links can't be bought separately.

Re: Control Arm Bushings
Yep, Subaru doesn't sell the bushings separate from the control arm. Either buy a new or used control arm, or get the Polish bushing kit for about the same price as a new control arm, but you get about 30 total bushings for the car.

Re: Control Arm Bushings
That is a great idea, thanks!
If I opt to go with the Polish Bushing Kit, will I need to replace all the bushings on the car, or can I do them as needed? I also noticed there are two versions available, so any suggestions on which kit I should get? (i.e. is there a large difference between the regular and sport?) Thanks! ~TEck |

Re: Control Arm Bushings
you can buy just the front kit. They go in easy, the old bushings apparently don't come out easy enough for my idiot local shop... So be firm that you want the old ones PRESSED out not burned out. If they burn them out your going to be doing alot of cleaning and repainting.
Also note you have to remove the rear engine subframe mount to pull the A-Arm, so plan on only doing one side at a time. Also its easier to have both front tires in the air so there is no load on the swaybar. That said, its quite easy to pull the A-arm with a modest supply of tools. 14,17, and 19mm sockets with a breakerbar. Oh and 14mm wrench. Doing the swaybar bushings at the same time 10 and 12mm are also need IIRC. |

Re: Control Arm Bushings
if you get the polish kit you should ask them about including a urethane bushing for the 15 minute mod. i had them make one for me that's the same size as the steering bushing but out of urethane so it will last forever. i don't think it really changed the price much either.

Re: Control Arm Bushings
Thanks so much for all the tips! I'm going to get the full bushing kit, as one of my parallel link bushings also has to be replaced, and adding the 15 minute mod bushing sounds like a great idea!

Re: Control Arm Bushings
bump because I recently bought the strong-flex.edu bushing kit (from poland) for $271 +shipping and encountered a small issue. The outer bushing for the lateral links (pn:271211 per strong-flex) is too big! I am currently shaving all four of them smaller so they will fit.
Also... it was mentioned by TiC and YT in other threads but I just wanted to mention that the '05 STi lateral links are a direct swap.

Re: Control Arm Bushings
Thanks for the info!
I'm in the process of getting the kit as well, so I guess I'll have some shaving to do as well. :-) I'll remember that I can swap the links off an '05 STi. Unrelated, but does anyone happen to know if the STi and the 2.5 RS use the same lateral links? ~TEck |
