Both. At one point I tested it with the FWD Fuse installed and it still did it. I also had the tires balanced and rotated, and had the alignment checked.

Re: vibration @ 30-40 then stops

ok well that could be your backlash is set too tight. when you swapped the gears in was there a little bit of play between the ring and the pinion? you can take it to any shop thats works on differentials and if you tell them whats going on they can check it for you. you can do it yourself if you would like, i could walk you through it but you would need to get a dial indicator for that and then to check the pattern you need gear paint

Re: vibration @ 30-40 then stops

I'll be taking it in to a shop then. Is it something that they can do by taking the cover off or do they have to remove the differential? In other words am I looking at big bucks or little bucks?

Re: vibration @ 30-40 then stops

it also could be the carrier bearings. either way the diff will need opened up as long as you are sure the noise is coming from the rear center. before you go down that road you might want to try and listen to the noise when you turn sharp and see if the noise changes at all. could be the start of a bad wheel bearing these cars have alot of probs with wheel bearings. also the rrear diff is a limited slip and needs the right kind of gear oil

Re: vibration @ 30-40 then stops

well hard to know till they open it and look but if its just backlash your looking prob around 100-200 if its bearings it will be a little more and if the gears are not meshed correctly it will be even more then that, max should be around 400 bucks for labor if they need to rebuild the whole thing (that also depends on the area you live in) plus parts

Re: vibration @ 30-40 then stops

Glad you got it worked out. Mine turned out to be a bad rear differential.
