advice on struts

Ok, i need struts pretty bad and i dont really want to buy used ones, and i dont want to give a arm and a leg for some performance ones. I found 4 used ones for 45 each that came off a svx with 44k and they say there in good condition. My mounts on my car are shot. there clunking very bad. for all 4 and shipping it would be 260 280 for them. What do you guys think??

Re: advice on struts

That sounds pretty good to me. I think i'd get them if I were in your position... Shipping sure sucks though. It's like you said there isn't really too many choices. If you're getting the struts from someone on this forum it should work out fine. People on this forum kick ass...

Re: advice on struts

I just bought struts at a great price from 1stSubaruParts.com
Dont use the web site to order them, go to the asK for quote section. I paid $115 for front and $107 for the rear.

Well worth it and they ship quick.

Cheers,
Adam

Re: advice on struts

Nothing but the struts. I was able to use all the original parts except for the bracket on the front struts. They go for $70 each on the site.
Just make sure not to order directly thru the web site. Look up the part numbers and then ask for a price quote.

Cheers,
Adam

Re: advice on struts

Those are the "sitting on the shelf for 17 years" struts. Apparently they won't last more than about a year before they leak.

I can vouche for that. It was an expensive mistake for me to buy all 4.

Re: advice on struts

The Koni inserts are great. Also come with a lifetime warranty. You will need your old struts to cut and new mounts as yours are shot. Might as well look at the rubber cushions for the springs since you have it apart anyway.

Re: advice on struts

subscribing to this thread. I need to do something soon as all of mine are shot. The thought of old shelf products sounds bad but at the same time, having Koni inserts and possibly a brutal ride isn't appealing to me either.

Re: advice on struts

Your ride, more than anything, will depend on your choice of springs. The KONIs are adjustable; they won't act like you welded your suspension to the frame.

Definitely NOT brutal. I got slightly stiffer springs at the same time as the inserts. The ride is firm but by no means jarring. Really makes a big improvement in the corners.
