Rigoli's Block

I found this interesting when I was searching for more information regarding TRP's EG33. Here's a picture of their block. Stock sleeves from what I can tell. Anyone know if they continued to use this method long term on the drag car?

Definitely not stock -- check the wire o-rings and the pieces of aluminum rod welded in around each bore....

I notice those modifications, but the actual sleeves are stock.

This is what we call by semi-closed deck.

Re: Rigoli's Block

No we have an open deck. Rigoli added those bits in there.

Looks like the block was drilled and the aluminum pins were just pressed in place. I don't see signs of welding (which would anneal the heat treatment of the block anyway).

I was thinking of drilling and tapping for threaded pins for my next project EG33 block, but I wonder if these non-threaded pins were glued in place as well?

Re: Rigoli's Block

You cannot really tell Bob. I magnified the picture I can see there a little bit of welding on the outer block side, not the sleeve part...

Re: Rigoli's Block

Hmmm...If the pins were pressed in, what are the odds of one or two being just a couple thousandths off and warping a sleeve?

...Unless you bored/honed the cylinders after pressing in the pins. Duh. Me tired.

Bob,
I agree with you. There is only one pin that looks like it might have some sort of adhesive/welding on -- far right cylinder at about the 8:00 location.

Lightbulb Re: Rigoli's Block

Since Rigoli's block is out for the public, it wouldn't hurt shooting them an email asking about the pins, right? I'm gonna do it and let you know guys...

Re: Rigoli's Block

Did Dom confirm that this is the same method currently used in their drag motor? Do they continue to use factory sleeves?

Re: Rigoli's Block

What puzzles me is how can you state that those are factory sleeves... look at any other picture of an EG33 and you should be able to see that they are definitely not.
