Spare tire

I need a spare tire. The one i got with my car is shredded. A Subaru dealer wants 120 bucks for just the tire. Does anyone in the Nebraska, Iowa area have one that they could sell or anyone would know where i can get one.

Thanks

It is a tire that will get you down the road to the nearest place that will fix your other tire. You should not run with it for more than a few miles. It will not match your other tires and is not good to use it for an emergency. It fits in the trunk so you have it, but hopefully you will never use it. The best thing is to keep good tires on your car.

Re: Spare tire

You could get a used wheel/tire for that much, but I have seen donut tires cost as much as 300 $. Always made me laugh that they were so expensive.

Re: Spare tire

I wish I could afford sets of 5 wheels and tires, and keep them rotated often enough to wear with the other 4... but I tend to run directional tires in the summer months, and different-size snows...

But a half-worn non-directional tire (can be mounted on either side of the car, without being backwards-directional) on a 5th regular wheel is probably better than a tiny donut spare.

Luckily I have only had to use the donut spare to get home once, with the Legacy, and only once on the SVX, to hold up the car in the garage, while the tire was repaired...

I have some half-worn spare tires for the Legacy, but they, again, are directional, and 225/45-18. If that were anywhere near the same rolling diameter of the SVX and the Legacy's wheels, and non-directional, I'd even consider getting one or two scrubby lookin' used, dual-drilled wheels, to have full size spares that could fit on either car. Just for a spare, though.

I wish Legacy wore 5x114.3 wheels. (and STI brembo brakes with that...)

Re: Spare tire

You could use a directional tire on the wrong side temporarily, it would just be dangerous in the wet and it might make some odd noises, I see a car come in about twice a year with directional tires on it that have been rotated to the wrong position by someone who doesn't know any better. long term wouldn't be a good idea though because it would probably set up an odd wear pattern.

Just curious, what condition are your OEM alloys in?

Three of mine are shiny through the paint. They are in fine shape, not really scraped up or anything, just that the paint isn't great on them, and the aluminum is showing through.

The fourth one is a nice medium gray, that I wish the rest were, but don't have the time or $$ to worry about painting right now.
