Re: adjusting brake band - dealer told me
Quote:
After years of 200° temps. jack jabbit starts, sitting in traffic, and the occasional tire spin,(snow or sand) tiny friction particles have been let loose in the system as the in transmission screen is not a filter, just a screen. The hot mix of burnt friction material, dirty oil, metal shavings get lodged into cracks, like dust in the corners that never get swept. Now someone hooks up a high pressure flush of some harsh cleaner followed by fresh fluid, and washes out all of the crap. Suddenly the old dried out seals, no longer flexable, have bigger holes to seal.

Re: adjusting brake band - dealer told me
Just trust him FLUSHING IS BAD!
I, too worked at a dealership, (bmw, mazda, isuzu) and they stopped doing flushes on cars with high miles because the majority of the cars they flushed came back not too long after needing a new transmission. And a more recent example: My girls dad just replaced the transmission on his girlfriends 05 ranger because her transmission was shuddering a little going into O/D and she took it to the dealer they flushed it and it got noticeably worse. |

Re: adjusting brake band - dealer told me
drain and fill is fine, just don't power flush, that is what stirs the crud up.
I suppose the lines at the radiator should come off and let it drain out of the radiator.

Re: adjusting brake band - dealer told me
I do use compressed air to blow through the trans cooler in the radiator both ways to make sure it's clear, once both cooler lines are disconnected.

Re: adjusting brake band - dealer told me
Shouldn't one bypass the trans cooler in the radiator in favor of an external trans cooler. I thought it was agreed that they become clogged due to the mesh inside pre '92. I did this years ago and have had no problems and better temps.

The current thinking is to bypass the stock in rad trans cooler with a medium sized one to allow more flow in the trans. The trick is to allow full pressure, and still mantain a >150°f, and <200°f transmission pressure.
