wouldn't move in the snow

yesterday i went up snowboarding it snowed a few inches. but when i went to leave they had plowed the parking lot i was in.

i backed out of the parking spot. then when i put it in drive it would not go foward i was on a slight incline but nothing bad at all. it would rev and the spedo would move also, but no tires would spin. tried putting it in fwd front tire would spin but not enough traction.

so i turned the car around put it awd again went down the hill to the lodge and then did not stop going back out and everything seemed to work fine.

any suggestions why it would not move? its got a rebuilt tranny

How do you know no tires were spinning?

Re: wouldn't move in the snow

guess the spedo moving rules that out but also I would think would rule in wheels spinning. (I did say... I would think)

Edit button.

The speedo gear is diff driven, but it's possible for it to read a signal without the front wheels spinning.

I hate to tell you this stiguy but if none of your wheels were spinning your trans is totally borked.

I'd give it another look.

Re: wouldn't move in the snow

So the wheels were spinning on the right side You MIGHT have toasted transfer clutches, will it peel out if you floor it on wet pavement? My SVX will chirp and then go, my wifes car (91 Legacy Turbo 4EAT) will roast the tires across an intersection...

Funny thing is with the LSD, you should have been spinning both rears once the viscous coupling engaged, but they take like 7 spins of one tire to heat up enough to fully engage... Transfer clutches aren't that bad though, about $700 to have replaced @ the dealership (4 hours labor + parts), and you do NOT have to pull the tranny to do them.

Re: wouldn't move in the snow

well i talked to my friend that was with me a he doesn't remember any wheels spinning and i did try to get it to move a few times.

(Funny thing is with the LSD, you should have been spinning both rears once the viscous coupling engaged, but they take like 7 spins of one tire to heat up enough to fully engage)

well it was les than 7 tire rotations could that be it?

Re: wouldn't move in the snow

Yeah it could be.. Mine had a bit of trouble starting out in the snow too, like I had to give it some gas and then after a moment or two it would grab traction and then it would go just fine.

Sounds like that to me as well. No wheels moving but speedo gear moving says trans busted.
