I am 78 years old and still drive 50,000 miles a year. We never know who we will have to dodge every time we get on the road, so think early give your self as much leverage as possible. I am sure nothing you could have done would have changed the outcome... Like my little courier pickup I call it "living room" Know where they all are all the time and drive lighted and live, even in your own back yard!! Again, so sorry but at least you will be ok! Keith P.S, Oh, and I pray a lot. Sounds like your guardian angel was with you! Take care Last edited by kwren; 07-27-2008 at 01:19 AM. |

I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. I would be inconsolable if that happened to my car. I hope your injuries heal up soon.

My mind had gone to the "What if she was drunk/impaired?" with possible "Property Damage and Pain and Suffering lawsuit" implications, and this also was odd for me. I hate lawyers and litigation, and money grubbing/ambulance chasing photogs, like the jackass that showed up at the scene and refused to talk to my wife when she approached him. This was after my ambulance had left the scene, and the fireman there said he showed up at all the "Big" wrecks. I was already thinking that I need a copy of the completed accident report for my scrapbook, but now am thinking about seeing a Prop damage specialist with the results, as I know for a certainty this was ENTIRELY the other driver's fault. A little history might be in order here. I spent 18 years of my 36 year career with Pacific Telephone/PacBell/SBC/AT&T as a Field Supervisor, teaching and regularly reviewing Defensive Driving with my team of van and ladder-truck driving Field Technicians as part of our required Safety Program. So these techniques are a part of my daily life, and I almost sub-consciously drive with a "Big Picture" view, mentally cursing all the "Me First" and "Get Outta My Way" drivers that increasingly clog our hiways today. I get in the correct lane early (DOH!), always signal my intentions clearly, and sometimes seem to move backwards in traffic as I attempt to "Space Cushion drive" and always leave myself an "out". So in all my mental recreations of this accident I look for something else I might have done to avoid the seemingly inevitable. I've finally come to the conclusion the only way I could have avoided the accident was by not being there at that instant in time. Apologies to all reading this for the long post!! But bottom line is, having never been involved in a serious accident such as this I had no sense of the pain and suffering, both physical and emotional, one goes through!! I realized, all machismo aside, that this is what I'm going through, and am thinking that someone should be made to pay for it!! I know it sucks, but I believe I'll discuss this with the wife, and a couple of close friends in the insurance business, and pursue it with the appropriate help. My BABY is DEAD, and I HURT, and will hurt for some time yet, and although the Christian thing to do would be to accept it as God's will, I won't settle for that this time!!! It's my turn to be the a$$hole. Going to start a diary of my day to day progress, and my emotional state from day zero today. Glenn

Re: A Sad Day for Me.
Glen,
So sorry for the loss of your baby. Sad, just sad. My Dad, about 20 years ago had the exact same thing happen in Redding, he was on his way to the golf course, gal turned in front of him, no time for brakes, turns, nada. His back has never been the same. Hope you decide to look for another SVX. That would help you a lot. You mentioned Pac Bell, do you know Rod Wilcox. He is here in the desert. He lived in Roseville working for Pac Bell, he is late 60's. Spends time in Roseville this time of year. Get well soon. Dave

Re: A Sad Day for Me.
Thanks for your thoughts Dave. They're much appreciated. No, only arrived in Roseville in 1996, and never met the man.
Hmmm, anyone else find it odd. On this board for 4 years without any disciplinary problems, lose my car to an accident, and not a word from the mods. Thanks Earl, Chris and the others. Appreciate your input. Glenn

Re: A Sad Day for Me.
Glenn,
So sorry for your loss, and glad to hear your OK. We lost our red 96 Lsi on 6/26/08 when my wife was rear ended by a lady driving a 2005 Ford F-250. You may have read my thread. Our car was previously salvaged from a previous owners accident in 2003 in Maryland, I bought it in 05 on ebay with a salvaged title, but the car was totally rebuilt. So now the at fault persons insurance company (Infinity) is trying to screw us by offering me $2100 for the car or $1646 if I keep it. Believe me Im keeping it, as I spent over $3k on it in the last year alone on mechanical repairs and upgrades. There basically saying that because our car was once salvaged before, that its now worth basically peanuts. What a farce. I can never replace it for $2100. Im gathering info and plan on negotiating for a fairer price. Glad to hear your ok, and best of luck finding another. BTW there is a 93 with only 67k original miles on autotrader. Its on the wrong coast though. Its in Mass. at a subaru dealer. Their asking $5995

Re: A Sad Day for Me.
Good to hear you are ok. Look at it as an opportunity to sit back and find yourself a beautiful SVX to fill that emptiness. They are out there...
