preventing hail damage
just wondering if anyone has any crazy ways to help protect their car from hail damage
we're expecting storms here tonight and both my parents have the garage, so im left outside ive parked as close as i can to the house, and i would typically just put blankets, towels, comforters (all old) over the car to give some padding just wondering if anyone knows of something i could do better?

Run to the Lowe's or Home Depot and pick up a mobile/temporary car port that is completely enclosed.
Go to a military surplus store and buy a GP medium tent. Bubble wrap....lots and lots of bubble wrap. Go park it at the local drive up, wash it yourself car wash and lock it inside. Might wanna sleep in the car if you do this to prevent towing. Drive to somewhere that the storm won't be. Buy more old comforters ....ok, maybe the bubble wrap wasn't that great of an idea...

hmm
Moving blankets? Old comforters from ThriftShop? Find a bridge and park under it?
I'd go for the comforters from the thriftshop. Thick, cheap, and you can poke holes to band it down. James

I have a "cockpit cover", basically half a car cover that covers just the roof and all of the glass around the car. It attaches at the front with velcro around the windshield wipers, along the sides by elastic around the rear view mirrors and door handles, and fastens inside the trunk channel. I first used it at Lafayette.
Before I got my garage, whenever there was a chance of hail, I put a sheet of 2" foam rubber over the roof and stretched the cockpit cover over it. Hail would just bounce and not cause any damage. You can do this with a normal car cover as well. The other thing I did that you can do to minimize hood damage is just raise the hood so that the hail cannot make a direct hit and cause a dent; its more of a glancing, ricochet thing. There is nothing in your engine compartment that can be hurt by hail. .
