I dont think I would sell my car for $20,000 if someone were to offer that, even though that would mean the end of several of my problems:
1. 3 vehicles and fishing boat with 2 car garage and driveway 2. husband who semi-cheerfully watches me spend money on repairs for a car he can't even get into 3. $20,000 would pay off my Forester and some other debts and pay for daughter's tuition for a semester 4. Our insurance premiums would be cut in half it's just TOO MUCH FUN to drive, plus the sheer coolness factor. you just can't put a price on that. however, $30,000 and I might reconsider |

Never would I pay a price that high for an SVX...at least not in that shape, but I am not about to knock someone else for doing it cause it will only raise the value of mine and other SVX alike which we all know is what we want. Yeah it might suck if you want to buy an SVX and they're all selling for a ton because of their rarity and age, but no matter how high the market goes a true SVXer can always find the good deals. Of all three of my SVXs I paid between hundreds to thousands LESS than what I feel they are actually worth and could sell for. I just happen to stumble upon good deals. Anyway I say congrats on getting that much for the car!

It also looks dented.
I think he is just attempting to help drive up the value of our cars with this claim (as suggested with his response). Either that, or the guy was loaded and 20k really just wasn't a big enough of a deal to loose a car he wanted over. If it was a 97 as someone brought up, then it could be argued that it would be among the rarest when/if our cars do become worth a few $$... some 360s are worth a pretty penny considering their state ...rusted to death, not running, with plants growing in them, so why not?

Speedkix, thats no picture of the car I just sold. I dont even recall who placed that picture but it wasnt me. The car I sold looks like Bailey red car. Excellent condistion it was.
Bailey is right, she thinks her car is worth approx 30K and I betcha she could get that much by just sticking to her guns. You other people is just behaving as if youre easy pushovers when it comes to selling. |

Yeah, I noticed that after, and then the joke set in. I was confused that it was black, and Class Glass is the only black aftermarket stock-looking hood.
(I realize it is just a stock hood painted black.)

For the record, I didn't mean to say I thought my car was worth $30,000- ...I just meant it would be hard to sell a car you love.

Bailey, the fact that its hard to sell is exactly why you are likely to get upwarrds of 20K if you ever decide to sell.
These other folks like Ownbot will likely accept any low, first offer from a buyer and thus never realize the full value of his car. I have to admit also that 97's are much more rare to also much moredesired then other years. Also, red is a more coveted color. This obviously contributed to my buyers willingness to pay 20K. |

At Reading 8, when my 1996, 90,000-mile "Pristine Green Polo Machine" was detailed and looking its best, I jokingly put a FOR SALE sign on it saying "$13,995.00 FIRM".I thought it would be funny and see what other members would think. They knew I had no intention of selling it and pretty much ignored the whole thing.
Many members had gone on the rally or elsewhere and some of us were just hanging around the parking lot. There was an older gentleman staying at the hotel who was wandering around the parking lot earlier in the morning, admiring our cars and asking questions, etc. He was not familiar with them but seemed very impressed with the SVX overall. I had even forgot that the sign was on the car and that same gentleman came up to me later and asked me if this was my car; I thought he just wanted to ask some more questions, etc... And then he said in a most sincere voice: "For that price, are you willing to inspect it?" This really caught me by surprise and I quickly said I was entertaining a prior offer and quickly removed the sign! He gave me his contact information just in case. I am too attached to this beauty to sell it even for that price. However, there ARE people (such as Ron Pratte) willing to pay whatever it takes to get the car they want. That is how Carroll Shelby's personal 1966 Shelby Cobra 427 Supersnake was sold at Barrett-Jackson in 2007 for over $5,000,000 plus a $500,000 commission! He also paid $600,000 for The Last Sting Ray Now if that Red 1997 SVX had to have a production VIN of 640, that would be something to see... .

wow. I agree, whatever someone is willing to pay really is the true value of a car. I paid what a lot of people might think was too much for my LSi and I was happy. This principle applies to antiques, beanie babies or comic books (or cup holders)

Until the cost of owning my car got way out of hand, I would not consider selling it really for any price. When I take her out for a spin the car ALWAYS attracts attention and some looks. My 18yr old daughter likes to drive it more than her Legacy just because of the "cool factor". I think she would disown me if I got rid of it.
Wife could take or leave it. She tried using it as a daily driver and soon discovered that is's worthless to take to the grocery store and put a lot into the trunk and trying to keep it from falling down on her head (struts were bad at the time.....but fixed after she got bonked in the head one time) Struts $90.00 EACH! Ouch! $180.00 spent=Happy wife I will say though, she got good at explaining the personalized plate (Boxer6) Scott |

Personally,
I would not sell my '97 for $20K. I know what the blue books say, but I am convinced that in a few years the blue books will change! To a much higher price - especially for the '97's!! Harry
