New Svx Owner!

Hey guys!
I'm acquiring a '92 subby SVX SOON with a fried tranny.
I am looing for replacement transmissions.

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE these cars. so the cost of restoring it is worth it but I'm a broke-ass college student. I work at a parts-store though, so I can get car parts at near cost.

I'm really interested in what the best transmission is to swap in.
I'd love a 5-speed, but the budget's tight, so an auto might work better.

Are there any transmissions out there that are a direct swap? I don't have alot of fabrication ability as I am lacking a good welder. I've found several auto tranny's for $400-$500 from subaru's ranging from '92 Impreza's to '04 WRX's

What's the most cost-effective option?

Getting a tranny from a 94-97 SVX would probably be the cheapest method. Just jack it up and plug it in. With any of the other trannies you need to change out the rear diff. Add to that after 1999, the bolt pattern on the bellhousing changed, so that's an obstacle to overcome as well.

cheapest best most cost effective option is to get a 4.44 auto out of an old outback. If your fairly handy you can do the work yourself..and if your not..its a fairly straightforward swap. Trans is direct fit,, but the rear diff needs to be taken apart if you want to retain the svx's lsd
