Roo,
Thanks, I did post this in the Q&A Thursday and am following up on some leads now. I'll put some pics up tonight. This joint still is different than all the pics I found of the XT style axles as well, but not significantly. Dave, where in Harry's did you see the XT6, or what color was it? maybe I'll take a trip up tomorrow. Steve |

First section, row 3-5??, gray.
I'll be there today, I'll see if it's still there.

The XT6 still had both of the front axles.
If you plan to pull them, you'll need a 36mm socket. I'm not sure if they will fit onto your transmission, but if you pull one, you can check it out on a transmission in a Legacy. Any Legacy, SVX and AWD Impreza will have the same stubs on the transmission, 25 splines. The XT6 has 25 splines, but I'm not sure on the diameter. Early FWD Impreza's have a smaller stub with 23 splines, so don't check on one of those.

It's definitely off of an older Subaru. It doesn't have the dust shield the same?? Have you tried to fit it onto the EJ tranny and the SVX Hub?? If it fits and you want to know where to get another, I'd post in the "Old School" section of USMB the folks over there are experts on the older soobs.
You may also want to contact MWE Axles. They specialize in rebuilding Subaru Axles and I'm sure they can help you find something that will work, possibally even custom building something???? Good luck and keep us informed, this seems like a neat project.

I've been e-mail with a specialist at Cardone (The Axle Rebuilders) and he is pretty confident that this is a knock-off of the XT-6 Axle that you describe. He was able to match up all the dimensions and said that it is a fairly strong upgrade for stock axles. What was throwing us off what the corrugations on the inner CV joint. Here is a link:
