Windows Vista Mail has teh slow?

the Mail program in Vista was driving me crazy it was so slow, but i found this, tried it, and now it is the fastAr.

use Step TWO in the link below ("How to Fix the Restricted Sites Issue...")
download the Winmail.reg file in the first step and follow the directions.

works great now - its the only "fix" i did from that page - i didn't want to disable my antivirus e-mail scanning. despite the site name, this fix works on 32 and 64 bit flavors of Vista.

XP has the same problem. With more people using a "known bad" style site blocker, this will become more of an issue.

If you run a DNS server on your network, you can block those sites through there. You could use your local hosts file to block them, but I don't recommend it.

i never had a problem with Outlook Express, and later, Mozilla Thunderbird, on XP.

Vista Mail would take a while to load up, and then took an abnormal amount of time to load each message when they were clicked on.

i am scared and confused by yore technical jibber-jabber, and the Vista Mail fix i posted above took less than 30 seconds to do.

It only applies to XP when you use IE7 and Outlook 2003 for your Email.

The issue is that every time you open an HTML formatted message or try to compose one, the mail system will scan the entire list of Internet Explorer restricted sites at every click or keystroke. the registry setting that winmail.reg changes is to set the mail program to not scan the restricted sites list every time you do something.

The problem started May 9th with a Microsoft update and as users install the updates, the problems are surfacing.

MS contends that the issue is not something they care to resolve as they never intended the restricted sites system to actually hold all of the restricted sites out there. Brilliant, I know, but look at the dumb & arrogant programmers we are dealing with.

oh, never used either of those - only Firefox and Outlook Express (and later Thunderbird).
