It cleans many of the components of the system that are hard to do manually. And may never be addressed at all. Because you only use it once a year, ( in Canada once every two years) might make it seem like a 'quick' fix.

Ok so I'm gonna be getting double my money back for the "Guarenteed to Pass" because I failed inspection again for emissions. But here's the kicker, the reading for HC the first time was 285 and this recent reading was 489!!!
I put a full bottle of Guarenteed to Pass in a full tank of Premium. I drove it til about a half tank and took it through the inspection. The car was all warmed up because I took it straight to inspection after a 30mile drive to use some gas. The inspector suggested getting a new fuel filter and coming back. But on the bright side I can keep bringing it back and getting it re-inspected every 45 days. Even though that would be a major PITA. So I think I'm gonna take it to the mechanic to see if he can find what's causing the problem.

you replaced the plugs, but you're not getting complete combustion...other things to look at are your O2 sensors and the condition of your main cat - you may need to replace it. what was the CO/CO2 reading? Have you tried to pull codes? The car can run "alright" and still be on the rich side.

CO is 0.00
CO2 is 12.1 I'll try and pull some codes to see if anything is wrong.

It just doesn't sound right for that to happen. I swear by this stuff. Now I'm just swearing !!! The only thing I can think of is that the main cat might be no good. A high HC reading is usually the result of poor combustion. (HC is fuel that makes it out the tailpipe without being burned.) The most typical cause is a poor ignition system. Or the computer that controls the fuel system. Excessive HC passing to the exhaust will also ruin a catalyst. They are only rated to react to a certain mass of fuel, so extra fuel translates into extra heat, which leads to a failed substrate. (sometimes can result in a fire if it gets too hot!) If you have the high HC readings at the tailpipe, a new main catalyst might be the answer. Just to be on the safe side. btw... One guy I know failed twice at one shop, went to a different test shop and passed??? ( He too used Guaranteed to pass ... 3 times?)

When i tried pulling codes today nothing was wrong. It kept blinking until I turned off the ignition. A new catalytic converter(or exhaust in general) has been one thing I was thinking about changing. When I take it to the mechanic hopefully he can find out what's the problem and I'm gonna fix it.

Sorry to hear about this. Hope you can get this inspection passed soon. How much do you guys need to pay for inspection each time in NJ? If after trying other ways, and it won't work. You're welcome to try my method also. Refer to post # 9 this thread.
Just wonder do you think your engine run/sound good? Say when you take off really hard(floor it), does your SVX smoke a lot of its tailpipe? Good luck!!

I go to a state facility to get it inspected so it's free
I was thinking about what you had said but I remember my Dad saying he had something like that and it just improved his mileage not emissions It runs good, no smoke when i floor it, generally it's in pretty good shape.

Free is good so you can do it many times with no charges.
Your dad told you it improved his mpgs? Not only that it should improve his emissions greatly. By all means, hope to see your post when you say "Yes, I pass my inspection" soon!

Yeah I can't wait for that day. I'm going to change the fuel filter tomorrow so maybe if it's early enough I can take it through the inspection line before work

Look for
Look for a garage that does "terra clean" or "motovac"
I had mine done (260k) and was as good as new readings.. Ian |

Just got it re-inspected for the 3rd time and failed again. I now know it can't be my car thats wrong it has to be their machine. The HC reading this time went from 489 to 2128!!! WTF?!?!?!
All I did was change the fuel filter!
