Source for Ecsaine

I e-mailed the folks at Gulf Fabric here in Florida about purchasing some gray ecsaine. They said they believed Subaru used Ultrasuede by Alcantara Auomotive http://www.alcantara.com/newsitetest/eng/index.html? but they do not have record of the color numbers. However, they would be happy to send samples of the following to see if a match can be found http://gulffabrics.com/alccolor.htm

Any votes on which color samples to request?

I stopped by an upholstery shop once and we took the Ultrasuede sample book out to my car, there were a few that were close.

Gene, it strikes me there are three products on the market. They are Ultrasuede [USA] Alcantara [Europe] and Ecsaine [Asia]

For all I know, they may all be made in the same factory, or, there could be more than one factory producing the material.

The reason I mention this may be obvious; it is possible these colour swatches shown are particular to cars that had Alcantara as material, and will not be a perfect match for Ecsaine equipped cars. Our cars all came from Gunma in Japan, and it is likely the colour combinations for them relate to the material that was supplied from the Asian Ecsaine factory to Fuji Inc.

Why not first check with the guys in Japan, and see if anybody there can give a code for the Ecsaine colours used? So far, I have seen two recognisably different colours in use on JDM cars. The purple ecsaine like on Earl's car, and the grey Ecsaine I have on my 94/95 car.

Maybe the American market got more colours or different colours, maybe not. If you are trying to match with existing trim, maybe the best way to go is find out existing trim codes first?

Joe

Here are the Alcantara/Ecsaine stain removal instructions from the Alcantara website. They probably need to be put into the How-To documents folder.

Joe, I'm actually looking to purchase some replacement for the leather trimmed front seats. They will have to closely match the unworn rear seats. Thought I might get some extra if others here have need. I have been real picky to assure the trim stays "like new".

#2942 is an almost perfect match for the gray dash/door trim. Only what you would call a dye lot difference common to all fabric and carpeting manufacturing runs. Have ordered more samples (#2957 and # 2938) because the seat fabric is a little darker shade.

That being the case Gene, I reckon it's a fair bet that 2934 is a close match for the purple ecsaine on my UK car.

I received more samples, no good match for the gray seat fabric. If you were to recover both the front and back, Pattern ALCP #2957 is close, a slight shade darker. I'll probably go ahead and get a few yards of that. Was hoping just to do the front seats.

Anyone out there want me to send them the #2942 sample to check out the door/dash match?

Gene

Re: Once again, it's pronounced (and spelled) ECSAINE

Bumping this old-ish thread.

Anyone figure out what the correct match is to the '94 beige door/dash alcantara? It's hard to tell just how "brown" vs. "gray" the color is in the car simply because it's next to so many other parts that are so brown.

I'm apt to think the correct color is #3279 as listed here: http://www.advancefurniture.com/Cata....asp?curPage=1, but that my be too pink. Hard to tell.
