Crash Test Rating

Does anyone have the front and side crash test rating information for a 92 SVX?

I'm googling it and looking at the NHTSA and getting zilch. They're very safe cars though for their era. Heavy car, durable construction,

Definitly went through crash testing, its strange I cant find anything about it...

Also, read here:

They sure are.

Not that I'm any expert, but you can see in that photo (35 MPH crash?) that the cabin structure doesn't appear compromised, the roof and door haven't buckled, and the door glass is intact. Good signs, I'd guess.

you're all wrong - that is a picture of an SVX attempting to simultaneously break both the sound and cement barrier.

I'm sure a lot of us could give personal testimony too lol... not as empirical as what you're looking for but still. My first SVX was a Silver 92, and one night around christmas, coming home from work, I got clocked a good one about 3/4 of the way through an intersection by a drunk driver who didn't even slow down. The hit was on the passenger side near the front end, but it pushed me straight into a telephone pole on the drivers' side. The hit literally cracked the pole in two, flipped it OVER my car such that it landed on and crushed the entire back end of his truck. I came out without a scratch aside from burning eyes for a day or so from the airbag, and my passenger had just a sprained wrist (she grabbed the oh-s*** bar when she saw the car coming at us and got a good jolt when she didn't let go of it). Obviously there was a bit of compression of the cabin, but not nearly so much as you might expect. My main concern in such a wreck - the cutout window bars impaling me - turned out fine. They broke and bent outwards, which seems probably to be by design. I wish I had pictures, but I was too steaming mad at that point to think about that.

In the year on so I've been on the board, I've read about several SVX accidents but I don't think I remember anyone with any serious injuries. After all, the concept it was based on WAS called the "Active Safety Concept"

SVXfiles sold a pearly to a girl who ended up flipping it somehow or another... Car rolled over and an optimist would even think... hey, we can fix this... I also ended up going 50/50 on a parts car that was rolled over and the cabin was almost unscathed... These are very safe automoblies and I would imagine with just as many air bags... it would be safer than many cars today

Its a rather large, wide, and long car too, 3500+lbs worth - methinks the only way your going to actually die in an accident is if you head-on an Abrams tank while doing 100mph... even then

off topic but.......
i once had to remove the nearly new snow tires froma nearly new sable wagon that had SNAP-rolled outside of montreal (1990?)
the car rolled AND removed BOTH door mirrors cleanly as well as most of the roof rack but the paint DID NOT have a scratch in it !!
it landed on its wheels and the owners DROVE it home from the scene!!( about 7-800 miles!!)
it landed so hard on the right front that the strut poked up through the hood and yet the car tracked almost straight

freakiest darn thing i ever saw
the car looked like it just needed a hood and some mirrors!!
obviously it was bent like a pretzel but still...........
wow

having said all that....what a weak piece o scrap those cars are compared to an SVX !!!

I know I pay more for 10k in medical insurance on my SVX than I do on my XT6 thorugh liberty. Its like $25 more a year too! Its higher than everything we own except the F-250. Don't ask me as I thought this was based on crash ratings and I'm quite certain that the SVX would be safer than an XT in esp a side impact.

Due to the airbag (mine doesn't work by the way) my insurance company charges me around $50 less a year than my lifted Cherokee.

Not a whole lot of money but hey 50 bucks is 50 bucks. That's like seven trips to Taco Bell.

Yeah, after posting my reply I actually did make a run for the border.

Spent $19... but that was for four of us.

So I stand corrected.

I could probably score two family meals and still have enough left over to take my wife to the Bell for our anniversary. Man I hope she doesn't see this posting... that will ruin the surprise.

Ira
