whining sound when i press on gas

hey
my 93 SVX makes a weird whining noise when i press on the gas and it increases in volume/pitch as the RPMs do
what could this be?
it has done this before but only on occasion, now it is every time i drive the car and it is getting kind of annoying

anything i can do to fix it?

thanks

Sounds like an idler going bad or maybe power steering? Take a listen and see if you can find the general vicinity of where the noise is coming from.

Depending on what the "whining" actually sounds like, it could be an exhaust leak.

Do you have a stereo amplifier installed?

I cant really describe the exact sound of an exhaust leak, but what you should try would be warm up your SVX, leave the door open, stay in park and hit the gas, and if the sound is coming from directly underneath you, it would probably be an exhaust leak.

Better still, block the tail pipe with a rag in order to produce back pressure.

If you have a younger sister, you can have her take the bus to school. now you can accelerate as much as you want and not here whining.
(Sorry, couldnt help myself)

If it's an electrinic, "Your grandma's old tv withy the volume all the way down" kinda whine, its alternator whine. I have NO idea what causes this, but Im sure Trevor does. If its more of a mechanical thing, I'd suspect first a bad bearing on the power steering pump, ac condensor, or alternator.

How the hell would I know, who where or what nasty thing is objecting. If alternator, you are right to first suspect bearings, but is it the alternator or a girl friend,

Could be your tires...Mine make a higher vibration whine...I think a belt shifted inside the tire tread...I rotated the tires and the sound minimized from the front where it was originally coming from.
