Paint problem
Any of you have this paint problem on the "SVX" panel?
Got a solution?

Ouch! You could get another one. Or take that one and get it re-done. There isn't much you can do with Clear Coat that's messed up like that.

Got it too...probably as a result of trying everything in the book to remove overspray.

Local dealership says they cannot remove the panel without snapping the points that hold it in. Crap.

That's about right. Expect to replace all the clips that hold it in place.

Mine looks kind of like that (not quite so pronounced), and so do the tops of the mirrors. I experimented on one side, masking around the panel, sanding very lightly so as to not cut too much into the color base, then spraying with rattlecan clear coat. Looks better, but I did a ham-fisted job of spraying and got a lumpy, orange-peel thing going on... too thick, I guess. Could probably still be buffed-out. Someone with more patience, the right touch and know-how could have done a much better job.

I don't seem to have that problem on my 95 polo green. Hey your antenna goes all the way down!

Yeah antenna is fine. Spray it with wd40 or slick 50 liquid spray and it should go all the way down. Do not get it on your paint.

That was the first sign my car gave of paint "failure" . I would say you should either take it to a paint shop for a new coat of clear, or if you've got good painting skill you can just rough it up, mask it, and re-spray like dcarrb did. Also, start watching your sunroof, rear view mirrors, and spoiler if you got one. They were the next ones to go on my car.

Amen. my plastic parts were faded, i saved the window sill pieces by rubbing on tons of wax. like moisturizing it.
Yes to all the parts mentioned... my rust is starting to flake. it bubbles. my suggestion is if you are not picky,, scrape the rust off and retouch with paint. if its getting worse. repaint! |
