as far as I can guess, from having an emerald green carpet in my bedroom is that emerald green would be a very dark green almost bordering on a flat color as opposed to pearlescent or metallic. This looks like an extremely dark polo green to me, perhaps it's the emerald we all search for (apparently called Arcadia green by Nasioc. http://members.nasioc.com/UserPics/14949/MySVX.jpg

EDIT: Correction I found this car on another site where he lists the polo green code number. On the other hand most products that I find in emeral green resemble this shade http://image.lik-sang.com/images/170...merald-ltd.jpg

That's GreenMarine's car. It's a 95L so it's technically the Emerald Green but they called it Polo Green. In 96 they kept the Polo Green name but changed the color.

Here's a photo of our Emerald Green car that Joe has been talking about. It looks either green or blue depending on the lighting and the angle you look from.

They made 300 of the S40-II model, some were silver and some were this colour.

Green with confusion!

It appears as though they made two different colors in 1995. Both of which were sold under the "Polo Green" name in the US. Here is an example of two 1995 SVX L-AWD models. Note on the vin plates that they are both 1995's as designated by the "S" in the vin number. Also note the production numbers. It appears as though paint code 434 was used on the lower number cars.

Paint code 434:

Paint code 517:

We all need a life by the way.

Earl, that's interesting. Are 169 and 269 different codes for the same color? Dark Teal in parentheses or not?
Can you elaborate?

The numbers and the colors are the same. I think one is US color and the other one is code for other contries maybe. They are known as both names and numbers.

OK, gotcha. I had read somewhere that Dark Teal was known as Peacock Blue in Japan at least.

Thanks for all these colour codes Earl.

I am not inclined to believe that cars with different codes have the same paint, even though the colour name given by marketing people is the same.

In other words I believe Ebony or Mica Black #s 135 and 235 are two different colours.
[As an aside, I remember discussing years ago that the mica component in the black colour could be one of two colours, green or red. Mine is coded 235, and the underlying mica is definitely red.]

I'm also intrigued that one of Earls's black colour options is 235/035. What does this mean? Does it imply that the car has a pearlescent mica-based paint on the body, but the roof and trunk lid are plain flat black? Can anyone whose car has this paint code on the VIN plate please confirm if this is the case?

Mine is red mica based paint all over.

Likewise, I would imagine the two Dark Teal variants [or Peacock Blue variants if you wish] of 169 and 269, these are two different colours also. It would be interesting to compare two of these cars up close to "spot the difference". Is it possible the general make-up of the paints are very similar, and the difference would be in the colour of the underlaying mica pearlescent component?

On second thoughts, anybody who works in a paint outlet would be able to tell us the differences. Their colour charts would show the percentages of the different colour blends and components that goes to make each colour.

Anybody got any insider information on this?

Joe

I have seen the peacock and dark teal names refering to the same color. A member here described his as peacock and I asked if it was the same as the dark teal. He got the color code off of his car and it was the same as the dark teal.

I have 5 Barcelona Reds in my heard. If I put them all together, they all look a little different. A couple of my 93s are only a few VINs apart and they are still diffenent in color (slightly). I think it may be how much sun they have been in or climate.

As a personal experience all of the black Mica vehicles I've owned or seen made by Subaru are all using the red as the base. But who knows it could just be a huge fluke that I've had this experience.

Yes, the ebony had a red uncoating. Subafreak was swearing up and down that I had a red car's front end on my old car but as I explained, they used a red uncoating to match the flakes in the ebony which just happen to be red(kinda). Weird but it looked damn good when cleaned up nicely

I have also seen the ebony with green flecks in it too. I bought a black spoiler from an ebony and it had the green fleck in it.
