Any particular reason your cam teeth were misaligned in the before picture?

Good question Nick. The intake cam teeth are spring loaded to keep them nice and snug on the exhaust cam teeth that drive them (only the exhaust cams are driven by the timing belt).

You're saying there's a spring in there ->

to keep them snug.

In that case why is the other one still aligned?

Will some one be selling cams like these?

I'm just thinking about my upgrade plans for my car.
I'm hoping to get 2v5 over the winter and cams look like the next thing to do after 2v5.

I am thinking of starting to sell them with the cores I have...Prices are still not set in stone becuase I still need to contact Scott at Delta cams and see if I can set up a deal with him... These will be made to order so if u say u want them... it could take up to 3 weeks to get them... I will basically be a middle man because many people do not have cores to send to Scott to have them done. I also don't want to promise anything until I see a reasonable gain out of them...

Nik,
They're called "backlash" gears...I saw them a lot when I worked on precision drivetrains used is "special" U.S. Navy hardware....(yeah, 11 years doing this type of work before my now 14+ years working for NASA...)
-Bill

Chike,
very, very nice!! Have you had a chance to hook a vacuum gauge up to one of the intake manifold ports to see what the vacuum level is at idle? Can't wait to see how the additional lift works with ported and polished heads and intake runners

Well I would not be ready to buy until spring at the earliest.

Thanks Bill. No I haven't hooked up a vacuum gauge to the intake manifold. If it's very straight-forward, you're more than welcome to bring one to the drag meet next Friday...

After the install at TomsSVX's place, I let my car idle for close to 15 minutes next to John's (AvPPoW) 5MT SVX. While it's slightly different from stock, it hasn't changed in any drastic way (definitely doesn't have a lumpy idle like a Camaro w/ cams).

Due to 13% greater peak lift on the intake valves, the ECU needs to dump ~13% more fuel to keep it at stoich during closed loop. As a result, my city/highway gas mileage has gone down to roughly 20.5mpg (21.5mpg before), while my highway mileage is around 25mpg (26-27mpg before).

So Chike the power gain was not as you have expected? You recommend a more aggressive setup?

Danny,
My guess is that you can probably increase the duration at the expense of bottom-end power and idle quality (i.e. smooth idle).

^^^

Kevin is right on the money!

-Chike

P.S. Let me also add for those wondering, that my car is an OBDII SVX and not once has it thrown a CEL since doing this upgrade.

One other thing Danny. You quoted me when I was speaking about the 'idle' with the new cams, not the performance (which is very misleading).

If you go back just a few more posts you'll see I mentioned that between 3,500-4,000 rpms the cams really come on and acceleration is amazing! Either way, my stock MAF is maxed out and my car needs the Stage 2v5 to fully utilize this upgrade!

-Chike

P.S. I did a test on a steep section of my gravel driveway where I brought my car to rest, paused for 10 seconds and then moved off. My engine still makes enough torque at 1,000-1,200 rpms to continue moving up with ease.

Its probably not quite like that. There is 13% more lift, but the throttle body butterflies are what control the amount of air that gets into the engine when you're just cruising around at part throttle. Its more likely that by changing the duration and the lobe centers, you've slightly decreased the efficiency of the engine at lower rpms, and so mileage is slightly reduced.
