Question 2005 Subaru Forester XS????

Hi all,
Atlast we are deciding on getting an used 2005 Subaru Forester XS Silver with 7k miles on it from a dealer. He is quoting around $18,000+tax. Wht do you all think about the deal? many of them (like Tom [svxfiles] and others) whom I have contacted are telling that its pretty much a good deal. Gone thru the KBB and edmunds values and the dealer price seems to be pretty good.

Looking forward for ur thoughts.

thanks,
-Pavan

$1800 sounds like a great deal! :-)

But why not get an XT? You probably can get one for not too much more money.

Actually my sister went for around $12000 on used subarus, but when we saw that deal we thought its a better one and I am sure we cant get such a deal.

Its an okay deal at best according to MAA black book and considering the current market. I'd bet the dealer didn't pay more that $16k for it and with 7k on the odo I would doubt they did a darn thing. Personally, I'm not a big fan of buying slightly used vehicles. The most important mileage for a car is those first 1000 miles and if its abused then you wouldn't know plus you take a hit on interest rates too when buying used. I wouldn't be suprised if the payments on a new one wouldn't be in the same ballpark.

I'd have to agree. For $18,000 you could pick up an '04 Forester XT from a private party or a wholesale dealer.

The turbo really 'improves' the driving experience.

And the cost for gas (premium) and mileage is horrible. Still say 18k is a lot. We paid 21k for brand stinking new 03 GT wagon that was listed at 26,800.

We thought of this tooo, but didnt find any 04's with considerably low miles selling either by owner or any used car dealers. So, we are still searching for some good one. But price wise do you think its a good deal?

One more thing is electrophil has tried running carfax on it, but it seems it is not showing any thing for that VIN number and on the other side it is telling that the VIN is not correct. I noted down the VIN at the dealer and also I have checked it with their online VIN. Do any of you have any idea whts goin on here?

the VIN is JF1SG656X5G716221 and the model is 2005 Forester XS

today i contacted the dealer and he is telling tht it is not registered to any indivudual and it has been used as a temporary vehicle given to the customers at the time of servicing their vehicles.

But i dont know how tht goes over here in US and the inner details in those cases.

Don't buy it then. It's like you are buying a used rental car

It was never registered or titled. Personally I wouldn't buy a dealer car like this one b/c you know i hasn't been well cared for by those behind the wheel.
